Anuga (General Food and Beverage Exhibition), the world’s leading food fair for the retail trade and the foodservice and catering markets, celebrates 100 years of food innovation since its first exposition in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1919. The Anuga events provided the perfect opportunity to establish valuable business contacts from which you will benefit sustainably.

Anuga 2019 remained constant is consumers’ desire for delicious and nutritious food and beverage. That will be the focus of the 35th installment of Anuga. Anuga is a biennial event for central business and communications platform, involved in the development, manufacturing, marketing, distribution and sale of food and beverage. It’s where new products make their debut to complement today’s and tomorrow’s trends.

Anuga 2019 offered three different congress topics that were all informative, innovative and trend-orientated. On all three days of the event you had the opportunity to participate in Anuga events, which covered significant topics for the industry.

Anuga is best described as 10 trade shows under one roof, as the exposition is a well-arranged layout divided up into themed areas. The halls are: 1) Bread & Bakery, 2) Chilled & Fresh Food, 3) Culinary Concepts, 4) Dairy, 5) Drinks, 6) Fine Food, 7) Frozen Food, 8) Meat, 9) Hot Beverages and 10) Organic. For the first time Anuga is offering participation opportunities for start-up companies in special pavilions located in each of the show halls.

Also new for 2019 is the Boulevard of Inspiration, which will showcase new products as well as house the Anuga Trend Zone, a program stage where experts from Innova Market Insights and Euromonitor will present an analyses on the developments in the food and beverage industry. In addition, there will be a strong focus on the future of food at a platform called Anuga Horizon 2050. Here visitors will be able to explore new technologies, solutions and industry innovations focused on startups, sustainability, alternative proteins and social media.

There were also 7 selected special events among the Anuga events. Whether you were interested in creative cooking events, exciting keynote speeches or product presentations of top-innovations, Anuga 2019 offered something for every taste.

Special event: 100 years of Anuga history: 2019 is a special year because Anugacelebrates its 100th anniversary – a remarkable sign of its significance to the industry. The first Anuga food fair took place in Stuttgart in 1919. Based on the concept of an annual touring exhibition, further events of the “General Food and Beverage Exhibition” were held, among others in Munich in 1920, in Berlin in 1922 and in Cologne in 1924. With around 360 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors, the first Anuga food fair in Cologne was the most successful event since its launch in 1919, which is why the organisers opted for Cologne as the food fair’s permanent location.

Anuga FoodTec 2018
Anuga FoodTec is the only trade fair in the world which covers the entire spectrum of food production – from processing, filling and packaging technology to packaging materials, ingredients, food safety and the entire range of innovations from all the areas associated with food production.

Every 3 years, Anuga FoodTec is the hotspot of the worldwide food and beverage industry and its suppliers and THE meeting point for visionaries and decision-makers.With over 50,000 trade visitors from 154 countries and around 1,700 exhibitors, Anuga FoodTec registered record values in 2018.

Anuga FoodTec covers all aspects of the food production. In line with the high demand on the exhibitor side, Anuga FoodTec is again increasing its exhibition space in 2018 up to 140,000 square metres and is being staged in Halls 4.2, 5.2, 6 to 9, 10.1 and for the first time additionally in Hall 10.2.

Anuga FoodTec is also presenting itself in good form in terms of its degree of internationality: Companies from more than 50 countries will be presenting their new products in Cologne. In addition to the comprehensive product show, which encompasses large-surface live presentations, a wide-ranging congress and event programme also awaits the trade visitors again. The top theme of Anuga FoodTec 2018 is Resource Efficiency.

With its exhibition segments Food Packaging, Safety & Analytics, Food Processing, Food Ingredients as well as Services & Solutions, Anuga FoodTec covers all aspects of food production. The exhibitors present solutions for all branches of the food industry, from the dairy and meat industries, from beverages to pasta, from fruit & vegetables, to oils & fats. Anuga FoodTec offers both individual solutions as well as holistic, cross-process concepts across all production stages.

Traditionally, process technology is the most strongly represented section at the trade fair. Almost all of the market leaders and renowned companies from the industry will be exhibiting in Halls 4.2, 6, 9, 10.1 and 10.2. In Halls 7, 8 and in parts of Hall 9, the focus is on the theme “Food Packaging” and thus also on packaging machines, packing materials, automation and control technology. In Hall 5.2, the trade visitors can find all information on food safety and quality management. Here companies that focus on hygiene technology, analysis, laboratory and measuring devices will be presenting their new products.

With numerous, large-surface exhibitor presences, live presentations on running production lines and a large diversity of offers, Anuga FoodTec has an extremely practice-oriented alignment. History of Anuga
The General Food and Beverage Exhibition, or Anuga for short, is the world’s largest trade fair for the food industry and the food industry. It takes place every two years in Cologne and brings together ten trade fairs for different food categories. The organizer is Koelnmesse.

Anuga claims to be the central trading place for manufacturers, importers and wholesalers as well as decision-makers in the food industry; it is a trade fair without public days.

As the leading international trade fair, Anuga wants to bring together all the important suppliers and buyers for retail and gastronomy and the out-of-home market as well as online trade and offer a representative breadth and depth of the global food industry, divided into ten trade fairs under one roof. This structure is intended to sharpen the profile of each trade fair and at the same time lead to synergies.

In 2003, the Anuga concept “10 trade fairs under one roof” was implemented for the first time in the new exhibition center.

In 2005, the number of exhibitors increased by five percent compared to the previous event. 6607 suppliers from 95 countries, 83 percent of them from abroad, and around 163,000 trade visitors from 175 countries were at Anuga.

In 2009 around 153,500 trade visitors came from over 180 countries, 61 percent of them from abroad. The number of exhibitors with 6522 suppliers from 97 countries remained unchanged. Trend topics were convenience, well food and “free-from” products, as well as “halal food”. The industry also made a name for itself with the topics of corporate social responsibility and sustainability.

In 2011, 6,743 exhibitors from 97 countries and 154,516 trade visitors from 185 countries were at Anuga from October 8th to 12th. The final of the Chef of the Year competition has been held at the trade fair every two years since 2011. The finalists will be determined through preliminary decisions that will be held in different cities in German-speaking countries.

At the 32nd Anuga in 2013, 6627 exhibitors presented their products and applications on 152,000 square meters of net exhibition space. 154,642 visitors came over the five days of the fair, 101,809 of them from abroad.

The 33rd Anuga took place from October 10th to 14th, 2015 and set new records. 7,063 exhibitors from 108 countries (foreign share 89%) presented their innovations to around 160,000 trade visitors from 192 countries (foreign share 68%) on 284,000 square meters of gross exhibition space.

The 34th Anuga from October 7th to 11th 2017 set a new record with more than 7,400 exhibiting companies from 107 countries, around 165,000 trade visitors from 198 countries took advantage of this offer.

History of Anuga FoodTec
International Supplier Fair for the Food and Beverage Industry is the leading international trade fair for the food and beverage industry. It covers all aspects of food production – from process technology to filling and packaging technology, from packaging materials to ingredients and food safety, as well as all innovations from all areas of food production. Anuga FoodTec is structured into eight product segments: food processing, food packaging, safety and analytics, digitalisation, automation, intralogistics, environment and energy, science and pioneering.

The fair takes place every three years in Cologne, the next time from 23 to 26 March 2021. The event is organised by Koelnmesse, and the Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft e.V. (German Agricultural Society) is the conceptual sponsor. (DLG).

Originating from the former Anuga-Technica and DLG-FoodTec, Anuga FoodTec has been providing a comprehensive and process-oriented overview of all technologies required for food production since 1996. Since 2011, Koelnmesse has maintained a strategic partnership for Anuga FoodTec with the “Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute” (PMMI), USA the organiser of Pack Expo and Expo Pack. In April 2016, Koelnmesse also entered into a cooperation with Fiere di Parma in order to jointly organise the Cibus Tec food technology in Parma in the future.

In 2012, 42,986 visitors (from 126 countries) came to Anuga FoodTec to gather information from a total of 1,289 exhibitors (from 41 countries) on a gross area of 127,000 m². In 2012, the fair again recorded an increase in exhibitors (over 10 %) and visitors (over 27 %). In 2015, the trade fair set a new exhibitor and visitor record. 1,479 exhibitors (from 49 countries) – an increase of 15 percent – exhibited on a gross area of 129,700 m². With 45,604 experts (from 139 countries), the number of trade visitors increased by 6 percent. The proportion of international visitors was over 54 per cent. In 2018, 1,657 exhibitors and over 50,000 trade visitors (from 152 countries) came to the fair.
