This year’s Moscow extension again promoted the mission of creative collaboration. Along with commercial activity, emerging creatives had opportunities to learn from the very best Italian architects and designers. Alberto and Francesco Meda, Francesco Fresa, and Marina Braginskaya were among the professionals in conversation with a full house of Russian designers at Salone’s Master Classes and Work Talk.

Also in full synergy, the Master Classes, in collaboration with ICE – Italian Trade Agency, led by three pivotal figures in Italian architecture and design, are unique opportunities for interface, dialogue and reflection on design issues. Alongside the Master Classes, the Work Talk: aimed at Russian professionals, the format was conceived in 2017 to stimulate new ideas and strategies against the country’s actual design and architectural background.

Master Classes and Work Talk
Providing an opportunity for reflection and learning on the themes of design and architecture and with a special focus on interior architecture, the annual Master Classes again accompany the Salone del Mobile.Milano Moscow, providing a cultural counterpoint to the purely commercial event. Plus: the Work Talk with Marina Braginskaya.

Alberto and Francesco Meda, father and son, are two contrasting generations, and a perfect example of how two different approaches and two different perspectives can be mutually advantageous in the creative world. Useful, good-looking, simple and innovative are the keywords that reference Alberto’s career path. He uses technology lightly to solve complex problems and produce simple, natural shapes. For Francesco, design is a matter of research, context and vocabulary, and – above all – materials.

Francesco Fresa is the co-founder of the studio Piuarch – a multi-award-winning international architecture and urban design studio – that sees comparison, dialogue and team work as added values for every project. Piuarch is a collective that finds strength in its plurality, made up of different backgrounds and identities that guarantee a multifaceted approach to their work. It is precisely this heterogeneity that defines a harmonious whole, a sort of orchestra, in which group recognition counts far more than personalisation and the passion for making architecture becomes the driving force.

The Work Talk hosted by Marina Braginskaya, aimed at Russian professionals, the format was conceived in 2017 to stimulate new ideas and strategies against the country’s actual design and architectural background.

Carlo Colombo is a designer both loved and contended by many Made in Italy design companies. Versatile and multifaceted, his design career initially focused on the design and planning of interiors before extending gradually to the architectural sector, in Italy and all over the world. Carlo is a professional who has created high-value artistic projects, attested to by the awards that have studded his career. For him, being an architect means, as Ernesto Rogers said as the Athens Charter was being drafted in 1952, designing “from the spoon to the city,” taking heed of the history of the place to which the project relates and to its context.
