Hirayama Ikuo (June 15, 1930 – December 2, 2009) is a Japanese painter and educator. Born in Setoda-cho, Hiroshima Prefecture on June 15, Showa 5. Japanese painter. After graduation, I entered the Tokyo Art School (now Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music) with the strong recommendation of Shimizu Nanzan (grandmother’s older brother). About 1959 when he served as an assistant at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts, he drew a “Buddhism inheritance” with Genbusanzan (Sanzo Kozaki) as the theme while he was prepared for death at the beginning of the atomic bomb aftereffect (leukopenia) and was selected for a clinic exhibition. Since then, Ikuo’s works are often Buddhist-themed.
In the summer of 1954, the experiences of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima triggered the “heart to pray for peace” superimposed on the Silk Road of Buddhism and continued to draw the “Silk Road Series” since 1963.
After graduating from Tokyo Art School (now Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music) in 1954, he studied under Maeda Aumiri, and mainly set up in the Gakuin Exhibition.
The theme of Buddhism eventually led to the admiration for the Silk Road that bound the Buddhism East Growth Road and the West and the Culture that conveyed Buddhism that occurred in ancient India to the end of Asia. After that, Ikuo is visiting European countries such as Italy and France.
Ikuo often travels to the ruins of Silk Road and China from the late 1960s and travels all over the Silk Road, from the extremely cold Himalayas to the hot summer Taklamakan Desert. The result has been fruited in the mural painting of Genkanzakurin in Nara · Yakushiji temple.
In addition to work creation activities, advocating the concept of the Red Cross of the World Cultural Property, activities are listed with cooperation for cultural heritage protection activities as one of the business objectives. In collaboration with the construction of the “Dunhuang Research Center” etc., and invited a total of 50 people from China for 10 years through activities such as protection of the Dunhuang caves and teach restoration technology.
