It made its debut in 2016 at the SEC – Shanghai Exhibition Center providing a unique experience, with an exhibition designed to introduce the Chinese visitors to the beauty, the quality, the luxury and the elegance of the Italian Way of Living. The Salone del Mobile.Milano is returning to Shanghai with renewed enthusiasm, consolidating the drive towards internationalisation that began many years ago and underscoring its aim to achieve primacy in an important market. Its focus on taking the experience and capacity for innovation from Milan and its Salone to super cities like Shanghai, which has shown its appreciation for the creativity and manufacturing value encapsulated by the event over the last few years.

The Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai promises three days of design and luxury furniture, in the same style categories as those showcased in Milan: the Design section –products that encapsulate functionality, innovation and a clear stylistic hallmark; and the xLux section –products that are a balance of classical elegance and modern appeal.

The event is a great opportunity to gain a foothold in the Chinese market and that of the easten Asian Countries, which are showing an increasingly keen interest in quality products, be they classic, design or luxury pieces. A large number of well-known furniture manufacturers in China also participated in the exhibition. The fair brought to SEC – Shanghai Exhibition Centre home furnishing goods exhibited last April at the Salone del Mobile.Milano, the established showcase for upcoming trends and affirming new talents, while consolidating positions and strategies.

From the year 2018 onwards the event was known as the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai, underscoring its origins, its close ties with Milan and Italy’s strong commitment towards internationalisation. This was triggered by a wish to encapsulate the same consistent identity under a single brand for an event that is seen by the public as the leading international design and furnishing appointment the world over, in Milan, Mosscow, also in Shanghai.

The exhibition’s programme includes a number of opportunities for experiences, meetings and cultural exchange, with the Master Classes, an event consolidated by the Salone del Mobile.Milano, in which leading Italian and international architects share with the public their thoughts and views on hot topics concerning the development of the sector in China and in the world. The cultural offering is further boosted by a rich calendar of events organised by the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai and its partners. An equal number of talented Chinese designers explore different but synergic visions and thoughts on the development of the design industry in Italy, in China and around the world.

SaloneSatellite Shanghai, which provides another opportunity for dialogue, was back, brimming with expectations and projects from talented designers under 35, as young Chinese designers, university and design school students showcase their projects. The top three, chosen by a jury of sectoral professionals, receive SaloneSatellite Shanghai Awards and an invitation to take part in the following edition of SaloneSatellite in Milan.

Every year, the organisers of the Salone – Federlegno Arredo Eventi in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency ICE, the government body that promotes the economic and commercial development of Italian companies abroad and works to attract foreign investment in Italy, and its Chinese partner VNU Exhibitions Asia – set great store by the quality of potential visitors who come from China’s top tier regions and from those in the throes of strong growth providing increased potential for concrete business opportunities for the exhibitors and an extraordinary platform for increased visibility and success on the Chinese market, the largest and fastest growing market in the world.

SaloneSatellite Shanghai
SaloneSatellite has been the first event to focus on young designers, instantly becoming the unrivalled place for interface with manufacturers, talent scouts and the most promising young designers, and is again running concurrently with the Salone del Mobile.Milano since 1998. Its creation was essentially a declaration of faith in the creative potential of designers under 35.

Many of the prototypes presented in the previous editions have gone into production, and many of the 10,000 designers who have taken part over the years, along with 270 international design schools, are now big names on the design scene. From 2016, SaloneSatellite has been part of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai paying tribute to young Chinese creativity.

SaloneSatellite returned to Shanghai as part of the 4th edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai, starring 53 talented young designers, chosen from among the top students at the most renowned design schools in the People’s Republic of China – East China Normal University, Detao Masters Academy and the Tongji University of Shanghai; Beijing University of Technology, the China Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Frank Chou Design Studio in Beijing; the China Academy of Fine Arts in Zhejiang and the Hong Kong Polytechnic – who exhibited products that bring together artistic expression and functionality, high craftsmanship and technological innovation.

In Shanghai too, SaloneSatellite was driven by the theme that shaped the Milan edition: FOOD as a DESIGN OBJECT, intended to spur young designers into using design as a vehicle for ideas and a generator of intelligent, responsible and practicable projects for the food system of the future.

Events
This year’s Shanghai extension again promoted the mission of creative collaboration. Also in full synergy, the Master Classes, in collaboration with ICE – Italian Trade Agency, led by pivotal figures in Italian architecture and design, are unique opportunities for interface, dialogue and reflection on design issues.

The event is regarded as the platform for good quality furnishing market thanks to the huge array of goods, which range from furnishings to upholstered furniture, lighting fixtures, kitchens, office furniture, accessories, bathroom furniture, textiles, furnishing elements and technical furnishing elements.

Each year, the SaloneSatellite Shanghai Award is presented for new concepts, original designs and proposals that are the forerunners of the great products of tomorrow. The selection is entrusted to a Jury composed of sectoral professionals.
