In the museum visitors experience the flower bulb region guided by an interactive exhibition for the whole family and school-going youth. The museum tells about 500 years of history of the region, about the labour in the fields of 100 years ago and the present day, and the science behind the development of new varieties of tulips. It also tells the science behind developing new tulip varieties. In addition, the museum shows how artists are inspired time and time again by the beauty of flowers through, among other things, print collections, an art collection of paintings, glass, porcelain, silver and contemporary art.

There’s a 40 minutes drive from the city centre of Amsterdam. The museum was opened in 1985 as Museum for the Flower Bulb Region by a private initiative. The museum was housed in the center of Lisse in an industrial building that was converted for the museum function. In 1995, 10 years later, the museum was expanded and renovated to a total area of 700 m². The museum received, among other things, an exhibition corridor, a library and a room for the boardroom.
