Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, Italy

The Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO (Comitato Giovani della Commissione Nazionale Italiana per l’UNESCO) aims at supporting the Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO in the field of education, science, culture and communication, promoting projects, values and supporting local communities, by seeking active participation of young people in events and initiative of national relevance.

MISSION

The Governments of the Member States of this Convention, on behalf of their peoples, declare:
[…] that man’s dignity requires the spread of culture and general education in an intent of justice, freedom and peace, so that all nations have sacred duties to do in a spirit of mutual assistance; For these reasons, the States that have signed this Convention are hereby instituting the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization with the aim of achieving progressively through the cooperation of the nations of the world whole in the fields of education, science and culture, the goals of international peace and common prosperity of mankind, the purposes for which the United Nations Organization has formed and that its Charter proclaims.

The Youth Committee aims to support the activities of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO in the fields of education, science, culture and communication, promoting projects, values ​​and priorities in local communities through the research of active participation of young people and civil society in national initiatives and events.

More than three hundred young people aged between 20 and 35, including students, researchers, artists, professionals, managers and entrepreneurs, are the soul of the Young Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO. Established in 2015, the Youth Committee aims to support the Commission’s activities in the field of education, science, culture and communication.

The Committee, chaired by Paolo Petrocelli, has a central structure consisting of National Board, Executive Board, National and Territorial Projects Coordination, and a peripheral branch in all regions of Italy, divided into teams led by Regional Representatives.

The Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, set up in the year 2015, under the aegis of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, is composed of young people, who equally represent all the Italian regions, volunteering to service of culture, science, education, and communication and information in our country.

In compliance with the UNESCO Conventions and the UNESCO Conventions, Declarations, Recommendations and Programs, the Youth Committee RECOGNIZES the importance of:
Awareness and participation of civil society, with particular attention to the active involvement of younger generations, by implementing actions that promote the spread of UNESCO principles and values;
Cultural, material and immaterial Heritage, Landscape and Natural Heritage in forming the identities of communities, groups and individuals and in joining past, present and future generations;
Education, as a continuous process of improving knowledge and skills; opportunities that everyone should have in order to understand, benefit and participate actively in the knowledge society;
Science as a set of knowledge gained through research activity with a view to understanding the human, social, economic and physical dynamics of the world we live in;
Communication, such as free circulation of ideas and universal access to information, expression of pluralism and cultural diversity; as a means of exchange and sharing, useful in transforming economies, societies and cultures;
Responsibility of the Future Generations to ensure that the needs, freedoms, rights and interests of the latter are safeguarded, respecting the environment, cultural heritage, human rights and fundamental freedoms;
International, National and Local Cooperation as an essential factor in building peace, freedom and justice, safeguarding, promoting and transmitting Heritage, and achieving a sustainable cultural, social, scientific, economic and technological development;
Diversity as a source of exchange and spiritual, intellectual, affective and material enrichment of the human race and development engine;
Awareness, as a process that opens up opportunities to exchange information and knowledge, can enhance mutual understanding and develop the skills necessary to allow for social and behavioral change.
Given the importance of the principles expressed, the Committee commits itself:
to make available to the community and national and international institutions their professionalism and commitment to the spread of UNESCO values ​​and to support the founding principles of our order and contemporary civil society;
to stimulate the awareness and awareness of young generations of the importance of culture, science, education and communication and information in all their forms and manifestations by collaborating, supporting and creating initiatives in line with UNESCO goals;
to collaborate in the creation of pilot projects that give new impetus to UNESCO values;
to translate the needs and aspirations of the new generations into concrete actions and projects, seeking to ensure the active participation of young people in initiatives and events related to cultural, scientific, educational and communication and information activities of international, national and regional relevance;
to create networks and to stimulate the interest of the population, especially the younger ones, on the UNESCO theme, in order to foster the exchange of ideas, experiences and good practices, guaranteeing a diverse, lay and apartheid perspective.
The Youth Committee of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, therefore, undertakes to disseminate this document and to support the implementation of the principles contained therein. Shared by all the territorial representations.
