Review of Fuorisalone, Milan Design Week 2018, Italy

Fuorisalone and Milan design week takes place at venues across Milan from April 17 to 22 2018. Milan Design Week, undisputed star of one of the most important events related to the world of design and architecture at international level. Milan’s Fuorisalone is a fluid entity in continuous expansion, flourishing each year in April with the leading trends in design and mapping out the most interesting areas of the city. Over half a million of professionals and design lovers are to join Fuorisalone 2018. The flamboyant festival with more than a thousand events in well-established design districts, renewed each year with double-digit anniversary celebrations.

Fuorisalone 2018 has been an incredible success throughout Milan Design Week. It has provided the most exciting brands and artists, and their presentation of the latest trends and luxurious products. Selected as stages for a truly variegated, stimulating and multifaceted narrative, in terms of culture, trends, technological research, materials. To respond to the growing demand for improvement of our quality of life. Whether the focus is on the city or the individual dwelling, on the present or an ecosustainable, high-performance future.

For one week, Milan was transformed into an open gallery, with historical palazzos and museums, public places and little hidden gems welcoming design aficionados from the world over. It has established a necessary bridge between artists and attendees, creating a vibe of memorable networking. The city is full of design and events, inside palaces, courtyards, buildings, piazzas, museums, abandoned factories, galleries, showrooms and other locations, organized in zones or districts – Durini, San Babila, Quadrilatero, Magenta, 5vie, Porta Venezia, Porta Vittoria, Tortona, Ventura-Centrale, Bovisa, Triennale, Brera, Isola and Porta Nuova…

Fuorisalone was first created in the 80’s as the Salone del Mobile with events and evening soirees, thanks to the of companies working in the furnishing and industrial design sectors. Currently, it is expanding into many related sectors including automotive, technology, telecommunications, art, fashion and food. Every year, in April, Salone and Fuorisalone define the Milan Design Week, the most important event in the world for design. The entire episode of the weeklong celebration is referred to as Milan Design Week, an event engaging the entire city, from Rho to Piazza Duomo.

Fuorisalone is the official guide to the event. Istitutionally recognised and supported, it has also been the reference point for the Interareas project, ordered by Milan City Council in the sphere of the ‘Milano Creativa’ programme which aims to share the requests of the different staff involved in the Design Week, since 2014. Fuorisalone is a communication platform which offers a system of support to companies, agencies, private people or associations for the conception, creation and promotion of events during the Design Week.

Fuorisalone is a tool that talks about the events of the Milan Design Week, experiencing them at first hand, bringing facts and key players to the fore against the background of a city that lives changing situations rotating around the design and creativity worlds for a week. During the Design Week, Fuorisalone evokes the atmosphere of a week in which Milan changes guise, the design capital is presented to its community through the form of the event par excellence. The aim of Fuorisalone is the promotion of design as an event, performance and installation in the urban fabric.

The Design Experience has become a fundamental rendezvous for anyone in Milan during Design Week, the countless exclusive events dedicated to design in all its forms filled with the city. Fuorisalone has given the opportunity to attend incredible events and exhibitions, where you can absorb incredible art installations all over the city of Milan. The plethora of installations, immersive experiences and exhibition itineraries breaching the borders where design and its collateral worlds meet, blend and overlap.

Respect for the environment and sustainable practices to keep it safe have been among the main themes of this 57th edition of the Milan Design Week: it’s nature that led the Fuorisalone. The participating companies explored the possibility of combining sustainability, design and digital technologies to create spaces able to respond to increasingly mutable needs, without giving up on comfort. In the 2018 edition of Milan Design Week, Fuorisalone proposes as a focus for the development of content the subject

The aim of the exhibition was to focus the attention of today and tomorrow’s citizens (smart citizens) on the great global changes which are taking place, on the transformations of the urban scenario and the role of technology in generating increasingly green and smart solutions. The reduction in consumption, the use of innovative building materials and the integration of green spaces contribute to create a city of the future in harmony with nature, in which the outdoor becomes a central place, the fulcrum of many daily activities. From this consideration comes the Smart Garden, a garden that integrates green, functionality and technology.

Same location and aspirations for Materials Village, the hub of Material ConneXion Italia dedicated to new technologies, sustainability and innovative materials. If the outdoors increasingly takes on the role of a space to be experienced every day, decisiobs are needed in terms of usability and functionality: bioclimatic pergolas and sun sails are a great answer to create an efficient, welcoming and strategical environment, in line with current trends and future ambitions.

The Milan Design Week revealed its green attitude not only concerning sustainability and respect for the environment, but also for furniture and aesthetics. The new trend is to transform the house into a green oasis, both inside and outside the home. Space then to the jungle style, with the inclusion of equatorial essences and the use of tropical design furnishings or prints with botanical and exotic motifs. A natural and relaxing environment inside the house, which is also reflected in the outdoors: the garden is lush and flourishing, far from the typical order of the Italian gardening model. The result is the creation of a small corner of peacefulness where you can live your moments en plein air in total freedom.

Clay and sand tones emancipate themselves from the bias of monotony and become protagonists of this 2018 edition of the Salone and the Fuorisalone. Chic and elegant, their neutrality make them perfect for any space in the house, as they harmonize with the surrounding environment and enhance everything around. When used in combination with bright colors, such as rust, green and orange – so much seen in Milan during the Design Week, which are perfect for a captivating contrast effect and to enhance more powerful colours.

Colder declinations, such as aluminum or steel, have even more strong personalities. Aluminum, in particular, is one of the trendiest materials presented in Milan: innovative, resistant and versatile, it is used mainly in outdoor areas, garden furniture, lighting technology, outdoor coverings such as bioclimatic pergolas and different types of Pergotenda Corradi.

Design Districts
The events of Fuorisalone are spread all over Milan, but are concentrated in some main areas.

Brera Design District
Discover the new Brera Experience. The best way to discover and get to know the district’s places and secrets. Brera Design District also features a selection of the best commercial activities, i.e. those that best represent the identity of this historic district of Milan between design, lifestyle, food, art and culture. The Brera Design District offers, as always, a large number of events that animate the neighborhood and which alternate with the many design showrooms hosted here.

Start from the “ancient heart of Brera”, represented by the pedestrian area of via Fiori Chiari, via Formentini and via Madonnina. Lose yourself among antiques, modern antique shops, exclusive shops and historic bars. Here, in via Fiori Chiari 18, Dedar presents the new textile wall coverings. In via Formentini 9 (in front of the deconsecrated church of S. Carpoforo) the Paola Sorio Luxury Design Atelier brand makes its debut, specialized in the creation of furniture and accessories between art and design characterized by a very high quality craftsmanship.

Brera Design District attracts the largest number of events and is the most visited and most representative district of the Fuorisalone. Born with the 2010 edition, the Brera Design Week has been able to increase over the years the number and quality of the events it hosts, for many, Fuorisalone means Brera and Brera Design Week is the reference platform, open to collaboration with companies and designers thanks to dedicated project formats. The Brera Design Night was on friday with special events throughout the district and showrooms open until midnight.

“Be Human: Designing with empathy”, a platform that by telling personal stories reveals daily objects and places connecting design with the lifestyle of contemporary families. Knowing the users deeply is always the starting point when designing a product. Empathy, is the ability to put oneself in someone else’s shoes and understand his / her needs before creating solutions, is key for the work of a designer. In a more and more digitalized present and in a future dominated by artificial intelligence, empathy was a scarce resource representing a factor of success for products and services: no robots ever be able to replace it.

This year the ambassadors of BDD, all present with a project within the borders of BDD, are talents who believe in the emotional side of design and in the empathy between objects, places and people. Cristina Celestino, with her delicate, emotional, evocative aesthetic and design vision, combines her architectural background with a fine personal taste for beauty. Another of the female ambassadors is Elena Salmistraro, who puts the artistic aspect at the core to raise sensations and feed the soul through design as well as to convey her poetic inspiration. Finally, the third ambassador is Daniele Lago, who has always considered design as the planning of experiences and was the first to change the patterns of design withLAGO apartment, founded in Brera in 2009, symbol of the interaction between project, product and people.

Again this year, in the setting of Brera Design Apartment, something special was organized, designed and realized by independent curator Raffaella Guidobono: Souvenir Milano. The rooms of this typical Milanese house develop a path that focuses on design and fine craftsmanship showing the new collections of Maddalena Selvini, Stories_of_Italy, Agustina Bottoni, Cynthia Vilchez Castiglioni, Sour design for Bottega Nove and Leftover for StudioF. Set up in partnership with the companies present in the Brera Design Apartment including Vitra, Bulthaup, Davide Groppi, Saba and Agape, the interiors host out-of-scale furnishings and coverings, hand-made objects resulting from artisanal processes carried out in the Italian districts of Nove and Murano with old techniques still used nowadays: sandblasting, chamfering, melting and drilling to make unique elements.

12 designers were invited to create a new piece for the launch of Souvenir Milano, the first collection of objects that takes the city as a symbol, Souvenir Milano offers the view of new icons of the city signed by Stories_of_Italy, Maddalena Selvini, Cynthia Vilchez Castiglioni, Agustina Bottoni, Astrid Luglio, Sara Ricciardi, Giulio Ceppi, Giovanna Carboni, Sour for Bottega Nove, Leftover for StudioF, Giulio Iacchetti and Gio Tirotto.

Ventura Centrale
Ventura Projects are self-initiated, curated exhibition areas with a special focus on quality and concept. The historical vault-shaped warehouses situated in via Ferrante Aporti, under the railway tracks of Milan Central Station, with 16 tunnels involved present immersive, poetic and ironic design experiences. Each project was characterised by high aesthic and qualitative content to tell visitors about the potentialities and application of contemporary design.

After the overwelhelming succes of the first edition of Ventura Centrale, Ventura Projects yet again open the beautiful abandoned warehouses underneath Milan’s Central Station in 2018. In this scenic location, allowing for site-specific installations, we present an eclectic mix of contemporary design by showcasing both emerging as well as established brands.

The second edition of Ventura Centrale and first edition of Ventura Future in Milan focus on the best of the best in contemporary design during Milan Design Week from 17-22 April. Our dynamic, curated format balances renowned designers with emerging talents, and independent studios with established brands, academies, galleries or institutions.

Ventura Projects has also found a new destination this year: Ventura Future ! This new project take place in three exceptional locations in the Loreto district: firstly, the doors of Loft, a beautiful Milanese gallery space, and FuturDome, the former meeting place of the Futurist movement, showcase the future epoch of design. Secondly, there was the former pharmacy faculty of Viale Abruzzi, an ancient building with an early-century residency style where former students left traces of their labors.

5VIE in Historic center of Milan
5VIE was born as a territorial marketing project linked to an area of ​​the historic center of Milan, the Cinque Vie: an area rich in history and culture, where among the remains of imperial Rome, early Christian basilicas and Renaissance courtyards you can still find artisan workshops of the highest level, as well as refined boutiques and art and design galleries. Thanks to the uniqueness of the curatorial program and the continually expanding success of previous editions, 5VIE art+design is now recognized internationally as an important new hub of cutting-edge design.

With a special focus on one-of-a-kind pieces, art design, and the cross- contamination among the various arts, the 2018 edition aims to build on this growing success and embrace experimentation more openly than ever and to cultivate an even more international presence. This year’s goal: consolidate our reputation as a cultural reference point,bringing together plurality of thought and international heterogeneity.

Working as always in close contact with curators and designers and concentrating on clusters of creativity, 5VIE is increasingly establishing itself as a meeting place for generating connections between different areas, investing in research, in the selection of projects, and in their final implementation. As such, our identity as a true “integrated design district” becomes crystal clear.

The fifth edition of 5VIE Design Week with a wide-ranging programme of International events. Continuing its five-years activity as cultural promoter and with the purpose of promoting the territorial heritage of Milan’s Old Town, this year 5VIE art+design presents and produces international projects dedicated to art, research, contemporary sign and love for handicraft and for the territory.

April, 17 – 22 – during this week, when Milan becomes the capital of creativity and quality, the 5VIE district continues focusing on history, culture and innovation, objects of its mission, and goes on making Milan’s Old Town richer and more lively. Again, 5VIE shows how to combine design, handicraft and culture, features of Milan and of its history, in particular of this district.

The Unsighted, an exhibition where the designer has produced a piece of art without knowing the context, the place, nor the final destination. Without any standard parameter, the project aims at emancipating the designer from classic style notions, special specifications and project requirements. The curator and gallerist Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte was hosted in the now well-known apartment of via Cesare Correnti 14, 5VIE headquarter, to work on a format that is in line with the spatial needs and the mission of the four founders. With the purpose of building and launching “tailored” projects with them, by blending research, art and savoir-faire. What is important is the creation of objects that are active and independent agents in the environment.

In via Cesare Correnti, 5VIE also collaborates again with Sara Ricciardi, one of the youngest talents of Italian design and finalist of the ‘Officine Panerai Next Generation Designer Award’, part of the ‘Wallpaper* Design Awards 2018′, which was the protagonist of an immersive installation curated by Alice Stori Liechtenstein and titled Arcadia. “Legacy” is the project’s topic and reveals the story and the beauty of Schloss Hollenegg, the Austria- based international programme which supports research, thinking and design critique.

5VIE also presents VEGAN DESIGN – Or the Art of Reduction, a project curated by Maria Cristina Didero. The exhibition is an opportunity to discover the work of a unique talent of international design. Each object of Eres Nevi Pana’s collections is made in compliance with the rules of a specific ethical position and it gives an answer to a specific question: it is possible to design without using any material from animals? With his work and his strict but emotional approach, Nevi Pana shows that it is possible. Vegan, Israeli, he was born in 1983 and studied at the Eindhoven Academy. He transfers his attitude of respect to life, human beings and nature to his design modalities.

Annalisa Rosso curate the personal exhibion Panorama of Valentina Cameranesi. Aiming for happy eyes, she builds a world to her own liking and likeness. The designer Valentina Cameranesi develops the key elements of her artistry – material, subject, visual language and conversation partner – in an illusory comfort zone. But the subconscious is at work, and the careful observer discern disturbing factors in a rarefied atmosphere. Wielding her signature style, Cameranesi plays with self-referential clichés and interiorized sources, and brings them alive in this show.

To continue with the view of reusing unused urban areas, 5VIE works with passion and temporary uses these hidden or abandoned areas for new purposes, by giving them new light and new life.
This year, 5VIE moves its centre of gravity and inaugurates a new creativity focal point in the former Meazza area, hardware store which is a symbol of the postwar period for every inhabitant of Milan, that closed down two years ago. Meazza was a reference point, a meeting point, an open square for the population. In short, a place that deserves to be brought back to light.

Among the various projects that was hosted at Meazza, 5Vie pays tribute to the work of Nanda Vigo, undisputed protagonist of the current art scene. Two “Goral” totems dating back to 2005 was presented. These two obelisks are equipped with neon lights representing the cosmogonic alphabet’s elementary signs, a simple translation of the more complex “Goral”, which in Buddhist philosophy represents the light of creation, while on its sides light sculptures was shown, that is to say the “Light Trees” of 1984.

Moreover, the movie “Go with the light” by Marco Poma/Metamorphosis was previewed. It collects a series of interviews registered during travels and exhibitions, from to 2005 to 2017. At Archivio Nanda Vigo in Via Gorani 8, sculptures titled “Deep Space”, 2013, was exhibited. Their triangular nature and the soft radiation they release create an impression of immateriality that projects them to an interstellar space.

Meazza host the info/press point, set up ad hoc by Pentatonic, circular design brand. Pentatonic invent new materials using the world’s most abundant and dangerous resource – human trash – and they do so without compromising an inch on design, performance or function.

5VIE local network expatriates by twinning with the Portuguese Projecto Travessa da Ermida, in the heart of Lisbon. In a curatorial proposal by Mário Caeiro, Projecto Travessa da Ermida presents achallenging work of the Portuguese artist Xana, who explores the meaning of place through an elegy to life and light in contrast with darkness, death and market’s egoism. The work is a site specific evolution of the original installation created for the Vicente initiative in Lisbon. The project focuses on the witty game between text and space, narrative and visual culture, and it transform via Bagnara in a stage of an unusual set of critical and intellectual meanings. Xana is one of the most important Portuguese artists, famous for his temporary art installations made of plastics.

Always up with the latest trends, the Design Week 5VIE kick off this year with It’s Circular, a forum dedicated to circular economy and design. Hosted by ANCE in Via San Maurilio, in the heart of the district, the forum take place on Sunday 15 and Monday 16. It’s Circular is supported by official partner Miniwiz and counts on the participation of the main Italian and international experts in the field, from companies and institutions to entrepreneurs, researchers and designers. The objective is to give back an accurate picture of the circular system today, using a pop approach to explore future scenarios linked to the regenerative economic system, identify best practices and establish a network of intelligences. The forum, organized under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, see the participation of entrepreneur Arthur Huang, designer Matteo Ragni, Meterial ConneXion CEO Emilio Genovesi, among others.

Porta Venezia Design District
Porta Venezia In Design, the fuorisalone circuit that combines design and art with the architectural and decorative heritage of the Liberty style. A Milan itinerary for the Design Week to combine design & art, food & wine with Liberty Architectu re herit age. PORTA VENEZIA IN DESIGN is an itinerary divided into ‘three’: showrooms, stores and companies featuring new design and art, the food & wine itinerary, which finds space in some selected bars and restaurants, guided tours of the Liberty facades, organized in collaboration with FAI – Italian Environment Fund.

The idea of ​​this circuit is to highlight places, sometimes ‘hidden’ in courtyards, other facing the road: design and furnishing companies, hospitality and leisure with good food and wine, architectural companies and workshops. Within the cultural aspect, which highlights the Liberty architecture heritage, revealing the venue has not been accessible for years – as the Albergo Diurno Venezia, now opened thanks to Delegazione Milano FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano. Santambrogio Design District area
Zona Santambrogio is one of the youngest districts of the Fuorisalone scene. Zona Santambrogio Design District is part of the Milan circuit of that unites all Milan events during the Milan Design Week, under the patronage of the Comune di Milano.

Zona Santambrogio Design District for the Milan Design Week 2018, at its sixth edition, it selects and promotes the events, exhibitions and the best shops in the district, between Piazza Sant’Ambrogio and Parco Sempione. Zona Santambrogio receives the patronage of the Comune di Milano and is part of the Milano circuit of Fuorisalone, the official channel that promotes the events of the City during the Design Week.

In the heart of Milan, in the charming garden of the quarter general of Zona Santambrogio Design District, Eat Urban, the Design Week Street Food Festival, Fuorisalone open-air restaurant also be on display. A selection of the best street food on wheels between apecars and vintage vehicles, positioned between trees and paths, offering Italian and international gourmet dishes. Every day it was possible to have breakfast, brunch, lunch, aperitif and dinner. Eat Urban was the ideal place to eat during the Milano Fuorisalone week.

Zona Santambrogio supports Milan Design Award, at its sixth edition, the prize for the best design layouts of the Milan Design Week: it is a shared project of the Milano Fuorisalone committee. Born for the protection and choral communication of Fuorisalone events, the committee is composed of Brera Design District, 5 Vie art + design, elita – Enjoy Living Italy, Milano Space Makers, Porta Venezia in Design, Superstudio Group, Tortona Design Week, Ventura Lambrate, Santambrogio area and Zona Bovisa Association. The Milano Design Award project is conceived and coordinated by elita-Enjoy Living Italy, created in collaboration with and IED Milano and supported by the Municipality of Milan.

INBOVISA is a cultural project of aggregation and communication, born from Associazione Zona Bovisa, for all the events and the actors of the Bovisa district in Milan. The goal is to enhance and implement this neighbourhood producer of innovation and creativity.

La Bovisa, was historically an industrial district with a labouring soul. In the last years this neighbourhood started an urban renewal process based on scientific research, training, culture development, design and innovation. During the Milan design week, Bovisa turn into a hub of event related to design and entrepreneurship: various creative and cultural start-ups identify this area as a reference point and as a district where innovation come alive.

Also this year some initiatives of this project was developed during the Milano Design Week 2018: from the 17th to 22th of April, INBOVISA aims to be the hub and the collector of all the different events and characters which wish to participate in a cultural project during the Fuorisalone.

Isola Design District
Isola Design District became one of the main official areas of Milan Design Week, for giving visibility to local artisans, studios and galleries, but also to create opportunities for international emerging designers and independent studios, during the most important design event of the World. Among the collective exhibitions, Milan Design Market be, once again, a hub for 45 emerging international designers, with a selection of projects never so rich before and an area dedicated to experimental materials.

Emerging creatives and sensational installations overflow in the Isola Design District, dedicated to this year’s theme of “Rethinking Material”, an exploration into the versatile experimentation of materials. Local craftsmen and international designers come together to showcase their extraordinary creations throughout the many ateliers and open shops in the neighborhood. The central nerve of the Isola district was La Stecca 3.0, a community space transformed exposition center dedicated to workshops for design.

The work of Kensaku Oshiro, the Japanese designer that has found a home here in the “island”, selected by architect Piero Lissoni for Maison&Objet’s Italian Rising Talent Awards; the Dutch Invertuals in Spazio O’; and the Milan Design Market, a concept store inside Gianni Rizzotti’s Photo Studio, a 400 square meter loft in via Pastrengo 14 designed by Elif Resitoglu.

Superstudio Più | SUPERDESIGN SHOW
Although Superdesign Show’s mission towards quality, excellence, research and the “less fair, more museum” original concept remains undiminished, the common theme that characterise every edition renovates: this year ONLY THE BEST, manifesto proposed by Gisella Borioli.

The selection focuses and highlights big names, innovative projects, life-style trends, technological solutions that improve the environment and everyday life, countries always at the top in the high-quality design such as Japan, and the emerging centres of new design, like a surprising Egypt.

Asia Design Pavilion
ASIA DESIGN PAVILION, in Milan the first collective exhibition and communication platform, specifically devised to present the multi-faceted creativity of the Asian design scene and reinforce dialogue between the East and West. It takes you from the Middle East to the Far East, from contemporary art and architecture, to food and fashion.

Organised in partnership with fuorisalone SARPI BRIDGE_ORIENTAL DESIGN WEEK, MILANO SPACE MAKERS e I-DES ItalyShenzhen, ASIA DESIGN PAVILION takes over the enormous exhibition hangars of Megawatt Court, transforming into a multicultural and interdisciplinary hub of lively and original proposals from the Asian contemporary scene.

La Triennale di Milano
The Triennale Design Week hosts more than 20 exhibitions displaying new tendencies and projects from different countries and firms, and a series of events. La Triennale di Milano, founded in 1923, is a cultural institution that brings together various forms of contemporary culture and creativity: architecture, design, the visual arts, photography, fashion, performance, theater, and music. The exhibition program includes great names as well as young artists, designers, and architects, who are currently coming to the fore. This program enables visitors to explore and find out about the most significant research and studies in the various fields of art and design.

Held at the Palazzo dell’Arte, was built to a design by Giovanni Muzio in 1933 in the Parco Sempione, just behind the Castello Sforzesco, in the heart of Milan. Throughout the year, the Triennale puts on exhibitions, meetings, conferences, and shows, involving personalities of international fame. The venue houses the Triennale Design Museum, the first museum of Italian design, which each year presents a new display with a different selection of works, providing visitors with original points of view. It is also home to the Triennale Teatro dell’Arte, which offers the best of Italian and international performing arts.

The energy of the Fuorisalone
A path that connects the Edison headquarters to the Porta Nuova / Porta volta district, connecting the places where energy is spoken and experienced like a large network. The historic Edison headquarters, in Foro Buonaparte 31, is the starting point of this path that leads to the Porta Nuova / Porta Volta district, Edison’s flagship during the Fuorisalone. Each stage of this journey aims to connect, like a large network, the places in the city where we talk about energy and sustainability, up to Lighthenge, the installation by Edison and Stefano Boeri in which energy comes to life through the interaction with people.

ENERGY ZONE by Hyundai
According to Hyundai, design is a real answer to people’s needs, to make the best and most advanced solutions available for everyone. At the same time Hyundai believes that design is art, able to convey strong and “energizing” emotions. The union of “Design” and “Energy” – seen both as a sensation and as a driving force – is therefore the guiding principle of Hyundai participation to the Milan Design Week 2018. A presence that comprises the experiential journey conceived by artist Carlo Bernardini, and the collaboration with the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) – which recently led to the creation of the electric concept car Hyundai Kite.

A meaning that materializes in the All-New Kona, first compact SUV available in Europe also in a full-electric version, characterized by expressive lines which give it a strong and dynamic stance. The participation of Swiss design schools, Swiss design firms as well as designers at the Salone del Mobile and the Fuorisalone enjoys a long tradition. To give this important presence a higher impact and visibility and to allow the interested visitor to seize at a glance the high quality, creativity and innovation of contemporary Swiss design, the Consulate General of Switzerland in Milan is looking forward to presenting the second edition of the Swiss Design Map Milano initiative. The specially conceived map allows you to spot easily all locations involving a presence with a link to Switzerland. Be it at Brera, in the Tortona area or elsewhere you find it easily on the map.

On the occasion of Salone del Mobile.Milano Architectours lead you through the most important Italian kitchens and bathrooms showrooms and events. Discover with Dada, Valcucine, Boffi, Arclinea and Lago among the top kitchen brands and Agape, Azzurra, Antonio Lupi and Rexa among the top bathrooms brands.

IN-OUT wellbeing in outdoor
At the 2018 edition of Milan Design Week a new district is born: the Citylife District, which is intoduced to the public with IN-OUT, Wellbeing in outdoor. The project consists of an exhibition en plein air and it develops the theme of outdoor wellness with installations, prototypes, concepts and materials. The aim is to create an oasis of relax during the MDW18, between the 17th and the 22 nd of April 2018, and to create an experiential place where design becomes a medium for discussion about living and feeling good in the open air.

The exhibition was developed in the urban context of Citylife in the area of ​​Piazza Tre Torri with exhibitors occupying either different square meters of space or smaller spaces to even describe a single product or an idea. With the power of a shared concept and the synergy between the companies, the project wants to create a creative hub dedicated to the outdoor. Moreover, great relevance also be given to the theme of sustainability, which is present throughout the project.

The intent is indeed to promote the passion for design while sharing a consideration on living and feeling good outdoors in a urban context. In this way, an active space can be created, where the framework created by design products becomes a system for sociality. IN-OUT, Wellbeing in outdoor is a project for the Milan Design Week by Promoest and Studio Rotella with the media partnership of Topscape Paysage and Fuosrisalone and under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan.

Milan Design Award
Milan Design Award, produced by elita, realized in partnership with Fuorisalone, is the competition that rewards the events of the Milan Design Week. The goal of the Milan Design Award is to reward the most unique experiences offered to the visitors, identify the aesthetic expressions that characterize contemporary design trends and highlight, through the selection of the projects, the new socio-cultural phenomena.
