The Presidential Archives is an organization of the National Archives, which oversees the administration of presidential records. It was founded on November 30, 2007 and is located in 250, Dasom-ro, Sejong Special Self-Governing City. The Director shall be deemed to be a general, research or term-providing officer who belongs to the Senior Civil Service Group or Class B.

The Presidential Archives collects, manages, and services presidential records to establish a foundation for the understanding of history, and to ensure transparency and accountability of nation’s public services that contribute to the development of democracy in the Republic of Korea.

Overview
Presidential records are state records that reflect the ideology and policies of a time and are a valuable asset to be managed nationally. However, despite the enactment of the Presidential Records Management Act and the establishment of the Presidential Archives for more than a decade, it is true that there have been attempts to use or distort presidential records politically and lack many administrative aspects.

Presidential Archives will innovate Presidential Records Management to deepen the neutrality of Presidents’ Archives and improve our records management process to strengthen our expertise. In addition to improving related laws and systems, we will reinforce the support for the presidential records producers to dramatically improve the system of producing, managing and utilizing presidential records.

Through these innovations, the President’s Archives will be the backbone of government records and reinforce its transparency and accountability
