Milan 68: contestation and cultural industry, Sormani Library

Milan 68 at the Sormani Library is the exhibition on contestation and cultural industry curated by Fausto Colombo. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the Monumental Staircase of the Sala del Grechetto in the Sormani Library in Milan hosts the exhibition Milan 68: contestation and cultural industry , curated by Fausto Colombo.

The exhibition is part of the Italian twentieth century program and is realized in collaboration with the Origoni-Steiner Studio, with the Kasa dei Libri, with the Franco Archive and with scientific advice, for the fashion section, by Elisabetta Invernici.

Milan -Fifty years have passed since the student protests flared , which, born in the United States, soon blew over Western Europe. In Milan, the 1968 started with the rebellion of Catholic students and was organized within the walls of the State University : the student movement led the protest which soon quickly involved the other Milanese universities and high schools. Dissatisfaction with a school system no longer adequate for mass educational needs had matured. In the following decade the company was overwhelmed by turning currents and innovation and troubled by the violence of the years of lead .

Milan -The Central Library rediscovers in its collections the reflections of that wind of change through the traces left in the cultural industry . Newspapers, magazines, alternative and independent publishing, self-produced flyers, vinyl records, scores and songs, posters, editions of protagonists of the contest in Milan evoke the climate of rebellion but also of extraordinary creativity in the artistic-cultural field that led to the birth of new languages.

The exhibition recalls the stages of the 1968 student protest that broke out in Milan within the walls of the University of Studies. The Central Library rediscovers in its collections the reflections of that wind of change through the traces left in the cultural industry: periodicals, alternative publishing, vinyl records, scores, diaries and testimonies. The path enriches iconographic materials from private collections.

The exhibition tells the mixture of rebellion and creativity that characterized those years. There are the vinyl records of Bob Dylan and Enzo Jannacci, the posters of the great films such as Oedipus Re by Pier Paolo Pasolini and The Stranger by Luchino Visconti, and then the pages of newspapers with the news, magazines and flyers.
