Maison&Objet 2019 last from January 18 – 22, at the Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris. The international trade fair for the decoration, design and lifestyle sector, marked by dynamic international business, confirming the attractiveness of inspiring events. Maison&Objet’s capacity to attract the crowds is primarily down to its outstanding ability to scout and showcase the sector’s up-and-coming trends, coupled with its capacity to drive forward promising business tendencies.

Maison&Objet confirmed its continuing appeal, its ability to bring together a global community of decoration, design and lifestyle professionals, and its business impact. An inspiring rendez-vous for the industry professionals from the home decor, design, crafts and lifestyle sectors were able to get together, meet at Maison&Objet to exchange ideas, make discoveries and sense market trends. It was in a positive business climate once again that the doors of the decor, design and lifestyle fair, located at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre.

The Maison&Objet trade fairmaintains its reputation as a global showcase for design. The Maison&Objet exhibition 2019 January edition welcomed 84,236 visitors, including 46,356 French and 37,880 international visitors from 160 countries. 2910 brands presented their latest creations, among them 603 were present for the first time.

In this edition, Positive feedback from the public lent further weight to our decision to divide the halls into sectors, that of organising the offer into two separate hubs. The strategy step first taken last September and perfected in January. Dividing the fair into two hubs, Maison and Objet, also made it easier to understand and more intuitive for visitors.

Rising talents and iconic design brands, young graduates and museum institutions, freshly launched design houses, artisans and designermakers with inspired and inspiring hands all flock to Paris to invent and showcase their vision of a desirable lifestyle. A lifestyle that is in harmony with nature, that leverages technology to bring people together, whilst drawing on traditional expertise that is handed down from generation to generation, bearing witness to the passing of time. Desirable Development helps strike that subtle and much longed for balance that sets us on the path of uninhibited revival.

Each Maison&Objet fair explores a key trend, in partnership with international innovation and creation consulting firm NellyRodi. The “je ne sais quoi” whose influence is once again being felt across the world. The immersive experience offered in the Trend Forum set the scene for the unmistakably French art of cultivating paradoxes and twisting classics. The Rising Talent Awards put China in the spotlight. True to its vocation as a talent detector, the fair shed light on emerging talent in a key country for contemporary creation: China. The six designers who won the Rising Talent Awards, organised in collaboration with DesignChain, were invited to exhibit their creations at the fair. This springboard provided them with the opportunity to work on new joint ventures with brands, particularly since the exhibition is now presented in the atrium of the Galeries Lafayette Homme department store from 25 January to 19 February 2019.

Sebastian Herkner, German designer voted Designer of the Year, presented, in a dedicated space, his main achievements and his signature, multiculturally inspired style that gives primacy to colour and combines craftsmanship and innovation.

The desire and inclination to reconnect in person were palpable, ranging from the most promising rising talents to the most highly acclaimed interior designers. It’s crucial for anyone working in the decoration and design sector to be able to discover and actually touch and feel new collections, Whilst clients were finally able to get up close and personal with products.

The achievementof the January edition was also down to the choice of the WORK! theme, which delivered on every level, attracting exhibitors and new visitors alike. For a number of yearsthe lines between our working and leisure environments have gradually been becoming blurred, forcing furniture makers and manufacturers to adopt the codes of home decor and develop ranges that meet a demand for mobility, sociability, comfort, personalisation and flexibility.

The Maison&Objet showcased a creative range of work space design solutions accompanied by a conference programme, the exhibition spaces showcased more than 500 brands and nearly 1,500 new products from all over the world spotted at the fair by top trend-setters Elizabeth Leriche, François Bernard and François Delclaux. A whole host of opportunities to glean inspiration and spark new business opportunities.

Starting with the Hotel and Restaurant trade, for whom Maison&Objet had put together a dedicated itinerary taking in everything from furnishings and tableware to cookware, lighting, textiles and fragrances, all addressing that industry’s specific needs in terms of safety standards, accessibility, solidity, etc. The September trade fair featured an itinerary specifically tailored to their needs accompanied by a series of conferences to help them address the challenges of decorating, equipping and designing each zone. Something else that was new this time around was the opportunity for hoteliers, restaurateurs and interior designers to take part in over 300 business meetings with a selection of some hundred dedicated brands.

Since 1995, Maison&Objet has been the world’s foremost event for professionals in the lifestyle, interior design and design industries. Each edition brings together some 3,000 exhibitors and more than 85 000 unique visitors, half from outside France. Promoting new contacts and emerging talents, the twiceyearly fair presents the latest sources of inspiration. By shedding light on current and future trends, Maison&Objet has become a catalyst for brand development and business growth.

2019 Rising Talent Awards: USA
Organized by Maison&Objet, the Paris-based international trade fair for design, decoration and lifestyle, the Rising Talent Awards shine a spotlight on emerging design excellence in specific parts of the world. Previous editions honored creativity in the United Kingdom, Italy, Lebanon and China.

This Year a distinguished jury has surveyed American design and selected six individual practitioners or firms with exceptional skills and promise. A lighting designer who fills rooms with blossoms and bubbles, a product designer energized by his industrial Midwestern roots, and a pair of artistic cousins who make sculptural metal furnishings. These are a few of the innovative Americans selected in the 2019 Rising Talent Awards.

The size and cultural diversity of the United States give rise to impressive design achievements. It is typical of young American designers to flock to geographical centers like Los Angeles, Chicago or Seattle, where they establish creative communities, share resources and trade influences. But if any one place can be declared the design capital of the United States, it is Brooklyn, New York. Among the six Rising American Talents, five are based there. (The sixth, Alex Brokamp, currently lives in Southern California.)

But the tilt toward Brooklyn is also an outgrowth of the borough’s 21st-century creative explosion, with real estate development surging in the downtown business district, artists and galleries transforming the Williamsburg and Bushwick neighborhoods and industrial complexes flourishing in Sunset Park and the Brooklyn Navy Yards. Industry City, a 6 million-square-foot development in Sunset Park populated by studios, workshops and vendors is a model environment for today’s independent American designer.

The work of this cohort will be prominently displayed at the next edition of Maison&Objet, which takes place Sept. 6-10, 2019, in the exhibition center at Paris Nord Villepinte.

Designer of the Year: Laura Gonzalez
At 37, architect Laura Gonzalez is already wellknown for working her magic across Paris, and for the past two years has been spreading her wings overseas, stamping her “reworked classical” style on a whole host of restaurants, bars, hotels and stores. MASON&OBJET is delighted to be giving this exceptionally talented and prolific designer a helping hand along the road to success by naming her Designer of the Year.

No -one else combines fabrics, motifs, materials, colours and eras quite like this bold young architect, resulting in a thoroughly unique signature style. The project Bus Palladium, a shining star of the Parisian night scene, which she chose to refurbish with a pot -pourri of no fewer than thirty -five wallpapers, furnishing the place with vintage finds and simultaneously dragging the brass fixtures and fittings kicking and screaming into the twenty -first century.

What was to become her signature style has since been further enriched over the years, fuelled by numerous collaborations with some of France’s very best craftsmen, in – cluding marble masons, cabinetmakers, glass – makers, glass blowers, mosaic specialists and lacquerers.

Immerse yourself in the world of Laura Gonzalez’s furniture in its superb interior, while savouring a selection of dishes and pastries devised by Pierre Hermé. The expertise of Pierre Frey is showcased in a decor that features shapes, colours and materials that only Laura Gonzalez could combine, a space defined by a mix of rounded shapes and bright colours.
