Information art

Information art (also data art or informatism) is a type of electronic art that combines computer science with a wealth of information processing technology. Information art is an emerging field of electronic art that synthesizes computer science, information technology, and more classical forms of art, including performance art, visual art, new media art and conceptual art. Information Art often includes interaction with computers that generate artistic content based on the processing of large amounts of data.

The manifestation of information art often adopts the classic performance of modern art, such as performing arts (the way of the stage), visual arts, media and so on. Information art often has the characteristics of human-computer interaction. Such as allowing viewers to act, causing the reaction of the computer, began to deal with a large amount of information, and according to the designers to choose how to present and so on.

Understanding is more effective when things are organised in a useful way. Information Arts looks its varied forms and the processes by which information is gathered and gleaned, it pays great attention to understanding who this information is intended for; utmost emphasis is laid on developing, through a design or artistic process, the appropriate media for the dissemination and delivery of this information.

At Information Arts nurture reflective practitioners who enquire into; and interpret the world through storytelling. Using tools that record change; be it memories, cultures, personal narratives or vast amounts of data, people are encouraged to explore newer and imaginative ways to construct and craft knowledge, tell stories and responsibly create communication.

Information Arts is to design/create for social concerns or aspire to create work that creates social change in some way. Students through the course of their study explore diverse media ranging from drawing, painting, photography, film, creative writing, graphic design, multimodal design, storytelling, computer graphics, interaction design and other art and design practices. Research, design process and methods, artistic process and methods and ethical ways of working closely with communities while collaborating with them are given special importance.

The human brain is hard-wired to quickly make sense of certain visual characteristics, and it can interpret trends and patterns in information more easily if it’s presented in a way that takes advantage of what are known as ‘pre-attentive attributes’. Informatism artist do this by using things like colour, bold lines, changes in hue and intensity, height, groupings to your advantage.

Informatism message is a type of art help people to be understand data or information, and to have real impact and influence, it is vital that you present your information in a clear, attractive and engaging way.

Organising stuff and making it look pretty. Informatism is a fabulous example of how a clear message has been communicated through clever yet simple use of data visualisation. From poverty, inequality, gender issues to climate change, artists and designers hold a powerful tool, their ability to tell stories through varied media to change the course of life around them, to create meaningful action, to enable change, to empower people, to be the voice for those who have none.

Information Arts to capture and record our lives, tell stories; posters to inform, educate and make aware; illustrated books of every kind to make a narrative come alive; we use our bodies as powerful instruments to tell stories through performance, dance, theatre; Information Arts transport data to fictional or real worlds or bring to light situations and events that are transforming ourselves and the world.

Information art data can be manifested using photographs, census data, micropayments, personal profiles and expressions, video clips, search engine results, digital painting, network signals, and prose.

Informatism follows on the 1970 exhibition organized by Kynaston McShine called “Information”, held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City – a show that formally established conceptual art as a leading tendency in the United States. Conceptual art had emerged simultaneously in dozens of international locations around 1966. At the same time arose the activities of Experiments in Art and Technology known as E.A.T.
