Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair 2019, China

The 34th HKTDC Hong Kong Houseware Fair and the 10th HKTDC Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, opened at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and last from April 20 to 23. Smart homes, innovative technologies, green products and start-ups are in the spotlight this year.

2,500 exhibitors from from 26 countries and regions are featured at the fair, showcase the latest houseware and home textiles collections to global buyers, showcase start-up, smart and green products. Including debut exhibitors from Egypt, France and Greece. Guangdong, Macao and Jiangmen have set up pavilions at the Houseware Fair to showcase quality products from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Houseware Fair is the largest show of its kind in Asia. The event continues to adopt the main theme of “L.I.F.E”, representing “Lifestyle”, “Interior”, “Feast” and “Enrich”, to categorise product zones in order to facilitate sourcing. In addition, the HKTDC is collaborating with international trend forecasting authority WGSN for a Trend Forecast Display that highlights houseware trends for Spring/Summer 2020. Apart from highlighted zones such as the Hall of Elegance, World of Fine Decor, World of Fine Dining and the Startup zone, this year also sees a new zone specifically for Candles and Scents.

This year’s Houseware Fair will continue to adopt the main theme of L.I.F.E. – representing “Lifestyle”, “Interior”, “Feast” and “Enrich”. “Lifestyle” will cover exquisite dining, home decor and eco-friendly houseware products. “Interior” refers to elegant interior designs, and will see the debut of a Candles and Scenes zone. An array of cooking and dining tools will be featured under the “Feast” theme, while “Enrich” will spotlight such quality-of-life-enhancing products as pet supplies, baby products, gardening supplies and beauty and healthcare products.

To highlight the four themes, the HKTDC has teamed up with WGSN, a world-renowned trend forecasting authority, to set up an on-site display featuring new concepts and highlighting key lifestyle and interior trends for Spring/Summer 2020. WGSN will also host a seminar to examine the upcoming colours, fabrics, shapes and moods.

Enormous potential in houseware and gifts, April is one of the peak seasons in Hong Kong for exhibitions and sourcing, asia’s leading show of its kind, the Houseware Fair will feature and the Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, offer an ideal trading platform for industry professionals looking to expand their footprint in the mainland and global markets.

Hong Kong’s exports of houseware products reached HK$351.1 billion in 2018, with the United States, the mainland and Japan continuing as the city’s largest export markets. In the gifts and premium segment, Hong Kong’s exports totalled HK$161.2 billion in 2018. The long and illustrious history of the Houseware Fair and Gifts & Premium Fair is a testament to Hong Kong’s pivotal position in the global houseware, gifts and premiums industries.

Hong Kong Houseware Fair 2019
The Hong Kong Houseware Fair is a trade fair organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, held annually (usually in mid-April) at the downtown location of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is the largest fair of its kind in Asia, more than 2,000 exhibitors fwill be showcasing their latest products. The fair’s special highlights include Hall of Elegance, World of Pet Supplies, World of Fine Dining, Home Accents, Home Living, Outdoor Living and ASEAN Select.

This year’s Houseware Fair show 28 start-ups from Hong Kong, the mainland, Indonesia and the Philippines. They include Hong Kong’s SPACEPLAN, an online platform that provides one-stop interior design solutions and encourages local interior designers and young designers to launch their own businesses.

Smart technologies are now becoming part of our daily lives. At the Houseware Fair, an exhibitor from the mainland will present its KIGI Food Storage Container. The product comes with an app that reminds consumers of the use-by date of the food in the container and will even offer recipe suggestions using that type of food as an ingredient. A Hong Kong exhibitor, meanwhile, will showcase its SmartBowl for pets, which enables owners to keep track of their pets’ daily calorie consumption. At a 23 April seminar, speakers from IKEA and Euromonitor International will share their insights on trends and developments in smart and eco living.

More than 40 exhibitors are gathered in the ever-popular Hall of Elegance to showcase a range of innovative designs, including the Carl Schmidt Sohn Galaxy pressure cooker (Booth: 1E-B22). A winner of the prestigious iF Design Award in 2018, the product comes with an easy one-hand opening and locking mechanism as well as a specially designed spill-proof lid.

Hong Kong exhibitor Natural Made Co Ltd is showcasing a Baby Bowl Set (Booth: 5B-F06) that is made from corn starch and is biodegradable and safe for infants. This eco-friendly product was awarded the Family Choice Award in the United States.

Also on display is Hong Kong start-up Film Players Limited (Booth: 5D-A24), which is showcasing the smart film it has developed. The user just needs to stick the smart film onto a window to use it as a blind, adjusting the colour as required. Different digital content and messages can also be displayed on the film. Film Players has won many awards, including a Gold Medal at the 2018 International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. In addition, Film Players was one of the top-10 start-ups selected through a pitching competition in the HKTDC’s Start-up Express programme in 2018.

Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair 2019
Home Textiles Fair showcases quality Asian products, multiple pavilions will dot the fairground of the Home Textiles Fair, including those presented by three of India’s largest chambers of commerce for the textiles industry − the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC). The pavilions will be dedicated to showcasing fine home textiles products from across South Asia.

In addition, Zhejiang, one of Mainland China’s major home textiles manufacturing bases, will present two pavilions to display Zhejiang’s traditional quality bedding products provided by companies from the town of Zhouquan and Pujiang county. A total of seven thematic zones will be featured at the fair, including the Hall of Glamour, Bathroom & Kitchen Textiles and Baby & Bedroom Textiles.

Theme of double exhibition
Zones under “Lifestyle” includes “Hall of Elegance”, “World of Fine Dining”, “World of Fine Decor” and “Green Living”. Smart Home has been the latest style of living. In the renowned “Hall of Elegance”, Shantou Leqishi Plastic Products Co Ltd, a company from Mainland China, will present their smart home product, KIGI Food Storage Container. Supported by its KIGI app, users can check the food conditions and be inspired of its suggested recipes based on their current stock of food. Other must-have designer collections and brands such as Carl Schmidt Sohn, Dafi, Flonal, Konstar, Kool, Mr Big, Westinghouse, TVS etc. will also be showcased.

Green Living has become another indispensable aspect of life to achieve a greener and more sustainable living environment. In another highlighted zone “World of Fine Dining”, Taiyo Chemicals Co Ltd, a company from Japan, will showcase the LauLau Tableware series which is made in Japan. Being made of recycled bottles collected from schools in the Wakayama prefecture, the tableware is safe for use in microwave and dishwashers. Other latest designs of tableware, kitchenware and wine tools from eminent brands to be featured include Clip Fresh, Cleanwrap, Kobubo, Locksy, Red A etc.

Interior – Styling up your living space
“Interior” is comprised of the debut zone “Candles and Scents” and other zones including “Interior Decor”, “Festive Decor”, “Best of ASEAN”, and “Group Pavilions”. Exquisite decorations which are indispensable for visionary interior design can be found here.

The debut zone “Candles and Scents” will present a wide array of candles and scents products allowing users to enhance their peace of mind. Rodia s.a from Greece will showcase their soy scented candles collection which are made of fine quality of paraffin wax. A spectrum of colours and alluring aromas are available such as orange-cinnamon, milk-chocolate, caramel-vanilla etc.. Aroma customization is also available.

Feast – Tasting the sweetness in life
“Feast” features “Tableware”, “Wine Tools & Accessories”, “Kitchenware & Gadgets” and “Home Appliances” zones. A wide spectrum of refined cooking and dining tools will be showcased. Eastern Rich Industries Ltd from Hong Kong will show silicone straw which is highly transparent and easy to clean. Being reusable and foldable also makes it a good companion for travellers.

Enrich – Infusing vibrancy into life
“Enrich” is where the “World of Pet Supplies”, “Homepedia”, “Baby Products”, “Bath, Beauty & Healthcare”, “Home Cleaning & Laundry”, “Storage Solutions”, “Outdoor & Gardening”, “Furniture”, “Trade Services” and “Startup” can be found. World Wide Daily Holdings Company Limited from Hong Kong will feature their Oral-in-One Floss-Pick-Brush. Its design of the detachable hook toothpick and interdental brush allows deeper access to the interior part of the teeth, reaching the hard-to-reach area without struggling. It is an essential item to improve oral health.

Activities
An array of seminars, networking events, product demo and launch pad sessions will be arranged during the fair to facilitate business matching and networking. Held concurrently in the same venue, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair will take buyers into the blossoming world of fine textiles.
