Hong Kong Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2017
The 48th edition of Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter, last from 16-19 January 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The fair gather some 1,500 exhibitors from around the world to showcase an array of new season garments, fashion accessories, clothing accessories, fabrics and related professional services, creating an ideal trade platform with a rich vein of business opportunities.

Under the theme Hall of Games, playful board games elements can be found ubiquitously in the unique fairground, bringing in a casual and enjoyable ambience for exhibitors and visitors to indulge in discussions.

To optimize buyers’ sourcing experiences, the fair is divided into more than 20 thematic zones according to different categories. These include the debut Fashionable Sportswear and Casual Wear zones that are introduced in response to the latest market trends.

With the increasing global awareness on the health issues, the world favours fitness activities. The new Fashionable Sportswear zone is therefore introduced to encompass a rich source of latest styles suitable for fitness, yoga, training classes and other sport activities.

Wakingbee (Booth: 1B-D28), the up-and-coming active wear brand from Bangkok, will display its sought-after collection of sports bra, leggings and running shorts that are designed for comfort with good stretch and breathability. Coming with surprising choices of soft pastel color and flowery patterns which differ from the norm, the collection utterly fulfills the essence of fashionable sportswear.

On the other hand, the trend to informality in dress is on the rise. A noticeable number of clothing brands from the Chinese mainland and around the world focus on selling casualwear with trendiness, variety of styles and short lead times. To keep up with the industry trends, the fair puts forward the Casual Wear zone for buyers to explore young and trendy styles for a relaxed lifestyle. The Knitwear zone, and the International Fashion Designers’ Showcase which presents highly individual designers collections.

At the International Fashion Designers’ Showcase, Japan will show up as a group pavilion with nineteen designers. HIKAMI MASAHIRO (Booth: 3C-DS62), who graduated from the renowned Bunka Fashion College in Japan, ingeniously blends traditional craftsmanship with modern refined designs to create her children’s shoes brand, NINOS. Made from natural leather with tested certification, the shoe brand aims to give a comfortable touch to children’s sole.

Konica Minolta Business (Booth: 1B-G24), on the other hand, exhibit its powerful application, Dispatcher Phoenix, at the Fashion Tech zone. Adopting an automating and streamlined workflow, together with practical features such as watermarking, it helps companies and designers to retrieve folders on desktop, mobile device or across the network anywhere, anytime to boost efficiency at work.

Other highlighted zones include Thermal Clothing, which showcases a variety of cold-weather apparel; Clothing Accessories, with items such as badges, trims, buttons, zippers and labels on display; Men In Style, which gathers the latest masculine garments and accessories; and the Fabrics & Yarn zone.

Highlight events
The 4-day event eature 10 fashion shows, including Designers’ Collection Show, Brand Collections’ Show and fashion parades, to maximize exposure for promising brands as well as latest global designs.

Experts from international trend forecasting agencies and industry professionals are invited to unveil the latest fashion trends and share updated market information at seminars and forums. Networking receptions also be held to help participants expand their network of contacts and gather the latest market intelligence.

FASHIONALLY COLLECTION
The fair promises an exciting event line-up of fashion shows and parades, including the Brand Collections’ Show, Designers’ Collection Show and the FASHIONALLY COLLECTION show which showcases the creative talents of the local new design forces.

The first show – #8 – focus on modern, updated womenswear from design labels, including 112 mountainyam, Kevin Ho, FromClothingof, Lapeewee, HANG and Blind by JW. Prepare to be amazed by contemporary reinterpretations of feminine aesthetics.

Kevin Ho is best known for designs with distinct feminine cuts, silhouettes and patterns, which straddles the line between edginess and elegance; Blind by JW, a brand that comes from the creative minds of a local designer duo who create memorable statement pieces with intriguing juxtaposition of Eastern and Western aesthetics and mixing of various fabrics, textures, techniques and colors.

The second show – #9 – showcase provocative and progressive designs that challenge the status quo from such design labels as DEMO., MODEMENT and SHERMAN KWAN. If you’re looking to add a bit more style and swag to your wardrobe, these are the designers to watch out for. The Brand Collections’ Show features local brands Ika Butani, and Chinese Arts & Crafts, which has a long history of promoting traditional arts & culture. They bring along three new collections of its sub-brand, Artistic Palace: the Qipao and Chinese-style apparel collections exude traditional Chinese aesthetic elements while combining novel modern styles; its haute couture collection is carefully crafted using exquisite materials.

Four designers from Hong Kong, New Zealand and Thailand also display their creativity at the Designers’ Collection Show. Agnes Wong as a talented designer who has a mastery of printed fabrics, lace and embroidery, is well-liked by international buyers at prominent trade shows such as “Who’s Next” in Paris and “Pure” in London;

Bernadette Chan’s British romanticism can be traced back to her Fashion Design studies in the UK, influencing her wedding gowns to be retro, elegant and attentive to details; Engeleena Padyachi from New Zealand present her extraordinary collection inspired by nature that is full of life and movement; and founder of Vanilla Gate-Gala, a crowd-pleasing T-shirt store in Bangkok Chatuchak Weekend Market will bring along a collection full of character.

Seminars
A series of trend forecasting seminars was organized with key fashion identities being invited to unveil the trends beyond and latest market intelligence.

Heavyweight speakers include Giulio Xiloyannis, Managing Director of Asia leading fashion e-tailer, Zarlora, share his distinctive viewpoints on omni-channel retailing;

Michael Leow, Asia/Pacific Sales & Marketing head of Fashion Snoops, the world-renowned trend forecaster from US also be in attendance to speak about the key trends for Men and Women’s wear for S/S 2018;

Brian Tam, Hong Kong Fashion and Marketing Project Manager from the Woolmark Company, discuss the leading trends of wool textiles for S/S 2018, and allow participants to view in person the Wool Lab – purchasing guide to the best wool fabrics and yarns in the world.

Hong Kong Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017
The 24th edition of Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer, last from 10-13 July 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The fair receive some 1,100 exhibitors from across the globe, presenting an array of spring/summer clothing, garment, designer collections, fashion & clothing accessories, fabrics and related professional services.

Under the theme “Style in Motion”, 20 fashion events was held during the fair, including fashion shows, trend forecasting seminars, buyer forums and a networking reception, presenting the latest market intelligence and fashion items. This year’s show also feature new exhibitors from Canada, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam; along with eight pavilions from India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Thailand, and first-timers Italy,Korea and Nepal.

The fair is sectioned into eighteen theme zones addressing various needs of the fashion industry, while facilitating an efficient matching of buyers and exhibitors. Always evolving, Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer adds Fashionable Sportswear and Urban Clothing to its zones lineup in this edition.

Highlights among them are Fashion Gallery which features high fashion and brand labels, as well as Fabrics & Yarn, Clothing Accessories and Menswear. Adding to that, the debut World of Fashion Accessories will house all fashion accessories-related zones such as Bags, Footwear, Leggings & Socks, Gloves, Scarves & Shawls for buyers’ easy sourcing all at a glance.

Titane Group (Hong Kong) Limited (Booth no.: 1B-C21), exhibitor from the Accessories zone, was presenting the HOTITLE Speed Racer titanium cufflinks inspired by the rim of sports cars. The series is light-weighted, durable and so finely crafted that even the tiny inner brake system is well elaborated. On top of that, the rims are interchangeable to complete looks of different styles.

Consumers nowadays not only look for quality apparels, but also clothing with functionality. The buoyant demand in the market gives rise to a variety of functional clothing, which is backed by producers’ adoption and development in functional fabrics.

The Woolmark Company (Booth no.: 1B-B01), global authority on wool production, developed the wool denim that preserves the look and style of traditional cotton denim, but goes beyond the possibilities it can offer by adding traits such as softness, warmth-keeping, wrinkle-free and quick-drying. The company also share the latest technology applied in wool denim and wool sneakers at a seminar.

On the other hand, Hyperbola Textile Co., Ltd. (Booth no.: 1C-D02), who focuses on combining fashion, aesthetics and technology to deliver high-performance outdoor clothing, exhibit smart and practical products such as durable wind- and water-proof windbreakers at the new Fashionable Sportswear zone.

Meanwhile, at the new Urban Clothing zone, an Italian exhibitor is displaying a range of locally designed and manufactured casual denim wear, while the Italian Trade Commission Hong Kong and Assocalzaturifici are showcasing 50 styles of Italian shoes under the theme “The Seduction of Footwear: Italian Glamour.” Experts from trend forecasting agency WGSN share the upcoming season’s footwear trends.

At the Fabrics & Yarn zone, The Woolmark Company is featuring its new Wool Denim, which apart from being anti-odour, also provides better warmth retention than normal denim and is machine-washable. The company also host a seminar titled “New Generation of Merino innovation – Wool Denim Wear & Wool Sneakers”.

Rapid development of electronic technology has generated broad applications. With people heavily relying on electronic apps in their everyday lives; the fashion industry has found its niche within it.

HopIN Digitech Company Ltd (Booth no.: 1B-E34) showcase a mobile fashion app at the Fashion Tech zone. The app allows easy browsing of digital catalogues, as well as trying on the clothes in real time by uploading photos of oneself. This innovative user experience boosts customers’ buying incentives, providing an effective alternative for industry players to promote their products.

International Fashion Designers’ Showcase return again this year to house designers from around the world, with Indonesia, Japan and Thailand hosting group pavilions to flaunt the alluring local designs. Among them, Indonesian designer PRISCILLA LISTIA (Booth no.: 1C-DS20), who attended the Vancouver Fashion Week, present her women’s wear brand Mia Amica which is acclaimed for employing the Indonesian Batik that has been acknowledged as an intangible world heritage product. The collection is executed with superb craftsmanship, modern silhouettes and charming embellishments such as embroideries and sequins.

Highlight events
To provide more promotional channels, fashion parades was arranged for exhibitors to present their latest collection to buyers. The fair is also a golden opportunity for information exchange within the industry. Renowned international trend forecasters, including Fashion Snoops, was invited to unveil the latest trends ahead. Co-organised with Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), a seminar on wearable technologies for fashion will also be organised.

A series of fashion shows and parades was staged across the first three days of the fair, participants include the exotic Indonesian brand Neusa, Macau haute couture and bridal designer brand Chavin, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre, School of Continuing of Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as exhibitors from the Chinese mainland, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) also host graduation shows and a lingerie show.

Seminars
The internationally renowned trend forecaster Fashion Snoops shed light on the upcoming trends for Autumn & Winter 2018/19 for women’s and men’s wear. With wearable technologies becoming increasingly popular, a seminar co-organised with Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) on the latest development and application of wearable technologies also be organised. Other seminars cover hot industry topics such as testing and certification for textiles and garments, and fashion E-tailing strategies.
