The 21st HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer, last from July 7-10, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Under the theme “Cruise Sensation,” Fashion Week offers buyers a wide variety of theme zones, including: Emporium de Mode, International Fashion Designers’ Showcase, World of Fashion Accessories, Bridal & Evening Wear and Infant & Children’s Wear.

The Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2014 showcased the hottest designs of the season, the fair also featured various theme zones, including the latest brand series, apparel, accessories and packaging design.

Some 1,250 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions are participating, include first-time exhibitors from Madagascar, Morocco, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. Seven group pavilions are also on hand, led by the Chinese mainland, with the fair’s biggest pavilion, and newcomer Thailand.

The HKTDC organised 89 buying missions, representing over 5,000 buyers, to take part in the fair. Among them were well-known fashion brands, large chain stores and distributors. These included: MINKPINK from Australia, Dashang Group Co, Ltd and Hiking Group from the Chinese mainland, M6 Boutique from France, Milktee Clothing from Malaysia, the Kanematsu Textile Corporation from Japan and the Apparel Group from the United Arab Emirates.

Alongside the many fashion parades at Fashion Week, buyer forums, trend-forecasting seminars and sharing sessions on the latest production technologies provide effective platforms for the industry to gather market information and exchange ideas.

Highlight events
A number of student fashion shows were held alongside the FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #3, which promoted 11 designers from the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest. A meet-the-buyer session was held after the fashion show for the 11 designers.

In all, more than 40 events was showcased at the fair, including eight fashion parades and nine house shows. They include the brand spotlight on Clara Tan, Ika Butoni and ZeevanCo by Meggie and the Macao Fashion Parade.

In addition, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong Design Institute and the Hong Kong Raffles School of Continuing Education are all highlighting collections of student designers.

FASHIONALLY COLLECTION
“FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #3” presents 11 fashion collections from past winners and finalists of the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest. On the second day, international cosmetics brand NARS hold a “Runway to Realway” presentation, unveiling the 3.1 Phillip Lim for NARS Nail Collection. It is also collaborating with three past YDC designers to launch a new eye shadow series at the fair.

Fashion designers participating in the FASHIONALLY fashion parade are: Aries Sin, Chewthecud, Chloe Sung, Kenax Leung, Kurt Ho, Mim Mak, Mountain Yam, Nelson Leung, Sandra Chau, Walter Kong and Wong Tsz Yan.

Stickyline
The HKTDC this year collaborated with Hong Kong art house Stickyline. Together, they held a series of activities to encourage public support of Hong Kong’s fashion brands and creative culture. The activities included an art installation exhibition at PMQ and a FASHIONALLY Pop-Up Showcase, designed by Stickyline, for the new PMQ branch of Hong Kong Design Gallery. Stickyline’s two young paper craft artists, Mic Leong and Soilworm Lai, also hosted a party-hat-making workshop.

Stickyline, an art house based in Hong Kong, has created an installation piece echoing the traditional use of residential space in Hong Kong. The piece, “Hong Kong Fashion,” was on display, 23 June to 22 July, at the former Police Married Quarters (PMQ) in Central, while seven ex-finalists of the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC) have produced a series of handbags and accessories to celebrate the recent opening of HKTDC Design Gallery at PMQ.

The items, which was on show from 23 June to 22 July at the new Design Gallery, are: purses made with neoprene and tanned leather, by Mountain Yam; bracelets made with film strips featuring scenes of local streets, by Aries Sin; distinctively patterned clutches from Walter Kong; acrylic necklaces, floral-patterned tote bags and teardrop crystal necklaces by Sandra Chau; heart-shaped wallets from Kurt Ho; elegant and sporty bracelets by Kenax Leung; and baseball caps, inspired by arcade games, from Nelson Leung, the Overall Winner of this year’s YDC.

Seminars
Seminars and forums was also featured throughout the fair, with a particular focus on trend forecasting. The WGSN Group leads a seminar on fashion forecasting for autumn/winter 2015/16. Style-Vision Asia looks at spring/summer 2015 womenswear trends, while a Wednesday seminar spotlights Peclers Paris and product development directions for fall/ winter 2015/16.

Other featured seminars include the focus on fashion branding, led by Ning Lau, founder of PR agency who are invited, and look at visual merchandising, featuring AMENPAPA Director Geoff Poon.
