Hong Kong Fashion Week 2014 Fall/Winter, China

The twin fairs of 45th Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong, last from January 13-16, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The fairs have attracted nearly 1,850 exhibitors from 29 countries and regions. First-time exhibitors at Fashion Week include Australia, the Philippines and the United States, along with the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

The Hong Kong Fashion Week, as Asia’s largest fashion fair, features three new product zones: Activewear, Packaging & Design and Wool & Cashmere. Returning areas include Bridal & Evening Wear, Emporium de Mode, offering stylish fashion in an elegant setting, Fashion Gallery, with its high fashion, Garment Mart, focused on mass merchandise, Infant & Children’s Wear, Intimate & Swim Wear, Sewing Supplies, and the World of Fashion Accessories.

Group pavilions come from the Chinese mainland, Chinese Taiwan, Macau, India, Thailand and the Hong Kong Apparel Society’s “Textile Element.”

The outfits from the Nordic countries, in collaboration of Swedish Fashion Council, TEKO (Swedish Textile and Clothing Industries’ Association) and Nordic Fashion Association are on display at the Hall 1E concourse. Some outfits are made of special materials like organic cotton, bamboo and even recycled polyester, which give us the insights into stylish Swedish fashion and the sustainable development in Nordic fashion.

Hong Kong sportswear manufacturer Yangtzekiang Garment Ltd has been serving clients from the medium to high-end fashion segments for more than 50 years. The Hong Kong Fur Federation’s “Designers Love Fur Collection 2014” display is at the Hall 1C Concourse.

Buyers at Fashion Week are not just interested in big labels but also in products that are special. In 2010, local designer Don Cheng launched his own brand of flamboyant, crystal-studded handbags and accessories. The products were a hit with emerging-market buyers at the fair.

The Small-Order Zone is presenting some 1,500 garment racks and showcases from over 120 exhibitors. More than 6,500 buyers visited the zone, which received over 13,000 business enquiries.

Indonesian buyer Detty Wulandari, CEO and founder of PT Sinar Mandiri Utama, a flash sales website selling men’s and women’s casual wear from Indonesian and international brands for seven days at a time.

Fashion Extravaganza
Fair highlights include the return of Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza, with the gala evening presenting four internationally celebrated fashion designers: Madrid-based Amaya Arzuaga; Paris-based Calla Haynes; Hong Kong’s Henry Lau; and Paris- and Shanghai-based Masha Ma. Ms Ma is presented by W Hotels Worldwide.

Designer Shows
World Boutique and Fashion Week together feature some 60 events, including house fashion shows spotlighting i.t, 14 January, Moiselle, 15 January, and Vivienne Westwood, 16 January. Winners of the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest, 14 January, was on display at the Hall 1D Concourse during the fair. Other special events include: the Footwear Design Competition Hong Kong, organised by The Federation of Hong Kong Footwear Ltd; the Knitwear Symphony, organised by the Knitwear Innovation and Design Society; and the Redress EcoChic Design Award.

Seminars
A series of high-profile fair seminars examines the latest fashion intelligence and trends. On the first day, Vilislava Petrova, Head of Content for WGSN’s APAC region, leads a seminar on likely trends in women’s wear for spring/summer 2015, followed by Pecler’s Paris’ men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, knitwear and accessories collection seminar. On the second day, contemporary Nordic fashion is in the spotlight.

On 15 January, seminar looks at Veronique Leroy, Parisian designer and VIP judge of the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest. Fashion gets personal, with Eddie Lau and Janice Wong talking about their fashion careers, on 14 January and 16 January respectively.

Hong Kong in Fashion
“Hong Kong in Fashion” showcases Hong Kong’s role as a fashion hub and lifestyle trendsetter, featuring more than 50 partners, some 170 retail outlets and nearly 50 events.

These include the Street Snap Competition,,free image and styling services at shopping malls, the “Stage of Glamour” fashion exhibition, fashion accessories workshops and make-up demonstrations, fashion parades and the “Coffee x Fashion” DIY Workshop.

HKTDC
