Hong Kong CENTRESTAGE 2019 Designers’ Collection, China

CENTRESTAGE is Asia’s premier fashion event, organised annually by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), offering a promotion platform for fashion brands and designers to showcase their talent, at the same time helping to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as one of Asia’s fashion capitals.

CENTRESTAGE to provide a comprehensive promotional platform through which Asian fashion brands and budding designers can launch and present their latest fashion collections and connect with global buyers and fashionistas at the same time. A greater number of local and international fashion brands participating at this year’s CENTRESTAGE, underscoring the event’s position as Asia’s leading launch and marketing platform for fashion brands and highlighting its ability to create diverse business opportunities.

The fourth edition of CENTRESTAGE runs from 4 to 7 September and features more than 240 participating brands, of which over 80 are from Hong Kong. Around 1,500 international buyers were invited to attend, with the objective of connecting local brands with the global fashion industry. Across the four days of the fair, attendees can participate in more than 40 events including over 20 fashion shows, designer sharing sessions, open talks, trend analyses and networking opportunities.

CENTRESTAGE launched its annual fashion extravaganza om 4 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The exclusive CENTRESTAGE ELITES opening event brought together renowned Hong Kong designer Anais Mak and her brand ANAÏS JOURDEN, and New York-based Joseph Altuzarra and his brand ALTUZARRA, in a joint fashion show featuring their pre-spring 2020 collections.

Designers’ Collection
Following CENTRESTAGE ELITES, the Fashion Hong Kong Runway Show on the evening of 4 September feature seven local designer labels that have made an impact around the world, including 112mountainyam (Designer: Mountain Yam), DORISKATH (Designer: Doris Kath Chan), FROM ANOTHER PLANETS (Designer: Kenax Leung), HARRISON WONG (Designer: Harrison Wong), MEIKING NG (Designer: June Ng), METHODOLOGY (Designer: Glori Tsui) and YEUNG CHIN (Designer: Yeung Chin). Following their participation in international fashion weeks in New York, London, Copenhagen and Tokyo under the Fashion Hong Kong banner, these designers will present their latest collections at CENTRESTAGE, demonstrating Hong Kong’s creative prowess.

Local online fashion hub FASHIONALLY.com will feature its FASHIONALLY Collection #14 fashion show on 4 September (Wednesday), presenting eight rising local fashion designers and labels. Three up-and-coming Hong Kong brands, Charlotte Ng Studio, Fake Fan and SFZ & SON, will combine art installations with fashion parades at the FASHIONALLY Presentation, providing a creative showcase for their latest collections.

Designer: Mountain Yam, Brand: 112 mountainyam
Designer, Mountain Yam, earned a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design from the Institute of Textile & Clothing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Yam started his own company MY FASHION INTERNATIONAL LIMITED in 2015. The designer has two labels, a couture made-to-order label MYam Atelier and a ready-to-wear fashion label, 112 mountainyam. In 2014, Yam was awarded 40 under 40 Recognizing High-Flying Design Talents of Today & Tomorrow presented by Perspective Magazine and also received a Dynamic Style Icon Award by Jessica Code Magazine in 2015. In 2016, Yam received a Hong Kong Designer Award from Jessica Magazine. In 2018, the designer is selected representing Hong Kong to participate in the ‘Belt and Road International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour’.

112 mountainyam appreciates perseverant and hardworking urban women and aimed to create self-confidence for independent women with stylish fashion collection. The brand uses Pantone 112 as a brand color, expresses a pursuit of vitality and the freedom and courage to explore the attitude of life. Designer Mountain Yam likes to explore contrasting elements, especially enjoying the inspiration from the natural environment and future buildings. The brand’s style artfully combines men’s and women’s silhouettes in its tailoring. This fresh approach, together with the juxtaposition of sportswear and partywear elements, creates the image of a modern woman.

Brand and Designer: DorisKath
Doris Kath Chan graduated from Central Saint Martins in London in BA (Hons) Fashion Design Womenswear and worked with Richard James after graduating. In 2014, Doris created DorisKath, with which she represented Hong Kong to showcase her collections at Copenhagen Fashion Week 2015 and 2016. Her “One Dress Fits All” designs impressed both local and international fashion media. As Creative Director, Doris advises corporate and private clients on branding and image. She was interviewed by multiple media in a number of fashion shows and events.

Created by Doris Kath Chan in 2014, DorisKath is a brand that specialises in wedding gowns, cocktail and evening dresses. The brand is expanding its designs to fit women in various styles and figures. She is also developing a high street fashion line with the intention of offering elegant yet practical designs to accommodate different lifestyles.

Brand and Designer: Harrison Wong
Harrison Wong Made fashion debut by winning both the Hong Kong Young Designer’s Contest and the Grand Prix Contest in Japan. He earned a Master’s Degree with distinction from the London College of Fashion. For a number of years before launching his own retail fashion business, Wong broadened his credentials by designing women’s and men’s seasonal collections for international runways in New York, Milan, Shanghai, Taipei, Sydney and Hong Kong. In addition, as Design Director for a number of fashion houses in Hong Kong and China, Wong has built up substantial creative expertise at the corporate level in these dynamic markets. In 2014, Harrison Wong entered a new chapter in his career by opening his first menswear retail shop at PMQ, Hong Kong’s art and design hub in Central. His retail network has now expanded to Harbour City, K11 and Tai Kwun in Central.

Harrison Wong fashion designs are recognized for their edgy, aggressive look that is tempered with an understated and very wearable chic. While Harrison Wong has a wide range of clients, they are generally fashion aware individuals with an eye for design and who tend to incorporate a taste for art into daily life. Wong’s apparel and accessories represent the highest in design and quality yet are readily affordable demonstrating that fine design and taste are not determined primarily by price.

Brand and Designer: KENAXLEUNG
Designer LEUNG Ka Kin, Kenax, whose passion towards fashion design sparked during his junior years, managed to achieve his dream of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fashion Design through obtaining his foundation years at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Upon finishing his BA Program, he further completed a Master of Arts Degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in July 2012. Another milestone for Kenax was when he became the winner of Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2012, a contest organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council to create awareness of the winning collections among the local and Asian media.

Established in 2012, the contemporary fashion label “KENAXLEUNG” is a presentation of the combination of sportswear elements, installation arts, architecture and ethnic craftsmanship – the combination of innovative materials and exquisite digital prints is the brand’s signature. His collections had been shown in Paris, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. Inspired by flipping his label “kenaxleung”, Kenax created the mirror-like logo carrying an important message – one must pay attention to every detail from inside and out. The core series of “KENAXLEUNG” are popular among major local lifestyle and fashion media, stylists and singers, including Louis Cheung, Eason Chan, Endy Chow, Kay Tse, Kary Ng, William Wei, Hins Cheung, Charlene Choi, MR., goldEN, etc.

Brand and Designer: Meiking Ng
Leaving the Royal Academy of Fine Art Antwerpen – Fashion Department in 2011, she joined a famous Parisian label – Guy Laroche as Senior Designer. To conserve the aesthetics between the Parisian elegance and characterized design philosophy nurtured from the academy. A contemporary womenswear label – MEIKING NG was established in 2015.

The contemporary, cubism art and architectural elements provided the inspiration for the brand design in presenting a metropolitan lady in capricious and romantic way, featuring on significant experimental Reversible double-faced and Multi-Wearable structure in term of combining two designs in one piece, that spending double input of effort, energy and materials on one creation, meticulous to both inner & outer beauty without differentiation as a prefect lady possess and deserves! Mainly using natural delicate sustainable silk with sophisticated details, craftsmanship, also incorporating rich layering to present distinctive characterized images.

Designer: Glori Tsui, Brand: METHODOLOGY
Before becoming a fashion designer, Glori Tsui studied illustration in Art Center College of Design, Southern California. She worked for Disney on graphics for children’s wear and showcased her art pieces in different gallery shows in Los Angeles. She realised her interest in sustainable fashion design later and then furthered her study by pursuing a Master Degree in MA Fashion Design in Nottingham Trent University in the UK. During the programme, she also gained some valuable design experiences in Paul Smith. With her illustration background, her inspiration always comes from fine art paintings and is transformed into different new creations. Glori launched her label METHODOLOGY, which debuted in Lane Crawford Hong Kong in FW2012. Now METHODLOGY has expanded its footprints globally and is available in the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and the Middle East.

METHODOLOGY, a women’s fashion and accessories designer label, launched its first collection in Lane Crawford Hong Kong in FW2012. METHODOLOGY’s designs often integrate femininity and toughness, achieved by experimenting with contrasting materials, shapes and forms. Featuring multiple functions in the accessories collection, the upcycled leather material is the core element. Many of METHODOLGY’s designs are transformable and offer multiple ways to wear, encouraging you to blend your own creativity and fashion sense. METHODOLOGY girls are confident, independent, audacious, courageous yet sexy and feminine.

Designer: Yeung Chin, Brand: YC
Yeung Chin was awarded scholarship by The University of Westminster London to study MA in Fashion Design in 2008 and graduated with a scholar of distinction in 2009. He has worked as a Sr fashion designer for Li Ning and Chief fashion designer for G2000. After founding the brand in 2013, he held his personal exhibitions at Asia Society Gallery and Hong Kong Heritage Museum in 2013 and National Design Centre (Singapore) in 2015. YC joined New York Fashion Week in 2015, Hong Kong Fashion Week and Shanghai Ontime Show in 2016 as well as Paris Fashion Week in 2017. YC also received Top Creative Award in the Hong Kong Young Designers’ Contest held by HKTDC in 2003, and YDC Special Mention Award by Hong Kong Design Centre in 2009.

Mistakes are made in our daily lives. Rather than taking it as a failure, we should enjoy the process by treasuring it as a source of creativity. This belief of Yeung Chin made him to establish the brand YC in 2013. Yeung Chin is a brand that observes the real world, defines mistakes and executes them through the collections. By making mistakes and errors in art experiments – painting, photo and sculpture, YC creates specific theme concept made in between, avant-garde to women’s ready-to-wear. It shows boyish silhouette, bold, asymmetric and layering style in the collection.
