Salone Nautico Internazionale di Genova 2021, last from September 16 to 21, brings together visitors and exhibitors for an exciting 6-day programme, following the necessary health and safety regulations. The 61st edition of Genoa Boat Show is the first trade show of the industry in Europe, since the 2020 Epidemic Safety Policy. The Boat Show is the indispensable point of reference and the priority strategic tool for the entire nautical sector to be pleasure craft that guarantees the qualified presence of exhibitors and international professionals with a specialized, competent and business-oriented public.

The Genoa International Boat Show is one of the world’s premier boat shows, held annually in Genoa. The Genoa International Boat Show is the consolidated reference point for the excellence of the Made in Italy sector, which focuses on the quality and know-how of a flagship sector of the country. The Boat Show is a unique event for its characteristics, which allow you to show in a single exhibition context, at sea, on land and indoors, the latest innovations in shipbuilding production, engines, electronics, accessories, tourism and all services.

The exhibition is organised by Confindustria Nautica, the Italian Marine Industry Association. The Genoa Boat Show has been held once a year (in September) since the 1960s, each year it hosts thousands of visitors and exhibitors and it is possible to admire the most beautiful boats in the world with state-of-the-art accessories. This event is also recognized by the IFBSO, the International Federation of Nautical Fair Organizers.

In addition to the exhibition of boats, business to business events supported by the ICE Agency take place in the Genoa naval fair, a communication campaign of the Salone with foreign countries, which boasts the presence of more than 50 journalists from all over the world who have been contributing, for years, to advertising the “Made in Italy” abroad.

The layout of the 61st Boat Showoffers the proven multi-specialist format, with renewed dedicated services developed for the five market segments that represent it: Yacht And Superyacht, Sailing World, Boating Discovery, Tech Trade and Living The Sea. The exhibition spaces of the Genoa International Boat Show proposes the proven multi-specialist format that is spread over an area of over 200,000 square meters between land and water, with 85% of the areas completely outdoors, hosting over 1,000 boats. The event is the container of 5 Salons, absolutely complementary and, at the same time, characterized by their own identity.

The Boat Show represents an unmissable event both for the international boating market and for sea lovers and is a global platform for institutional, technical and market comparison for the whole sector 365 days a year. The event is characterized every year by special appointments, sporting events, conferences, technical seminars and all the news of international boating, which involve operators in the sector and sea lovers.

It is the priority strategic tool for the whole yachting sector, for the support and development of the business of companies, which guarantees the qualified presence of international exhibitors, professionals and press thanks also to the support of ICE Agenzia. The offer is divided into a Tech Trade show dedicated to components and accessories, a sailing show (Sailing World), an outboard world show (Boating Discovery), a Yacht and Superyacht show, and a Living The Sea show, each with renewed dedicated and developed services to guarantee each segment and clientele a service that is ever closer to specific needs.

History
Owing the popularity of nautical tourism along the Italian Riviera, as well as Genoa’s history as a city for the ship and yacht building industry, the 1st International Boat Show was opened by Senator De Gregorio, Undersecretary to the Treasury, on 27 January 1962. With 300,000 visitors that year, the Genoa Boat Show was an instant success.

Over the years, the Boat show grew mainly by an increasing number of exhibitors and professional organisations attending the show, and with the 46th International Boat Show in 2006, the marina underwent one of its most substantial extensions. In 2009 the new 20.000 sqm Pavilion B – designed by French architect Jean Nouvel – was opened.

Since its inception, the shows were officially opened by Italian government ministers of Economy and Finance, Infrastructures and Transports respectively. Next to the boot Düsseldorf trade fair, the Salone Nautico is regarded as one of the world’s largest boat shows.

Exhibition spaces
As the largest event on the Mediterranean, the Genoa Boat Show is the world’s number one showcase for the very best the Made in Italy brand has to offer, welcoming every year industry professionals and boating enthusiasts alike to over 200,000 square metres of display area on land and sea.

Since its first successful introduction in 2018, the Genoa Boat Show has taken on a new multi-specialised format, that of 4 Boat Shows in 1, each entirely complementary yet at the same time characterised by their own specific identities: no divisions, no limits, just an extension of the Genoa Boat Show’s key strength, that of being a cross-segment event with in-depth vertical support chains that define a tailored one-to-one relationship with each and every exhibitor and visitor.

The layout provides a TechTrade Fair dedicated to components and equipment, a sailing boat show (Sailing World), an area dedicated to outboard motorboats (Boat Discovery) and a Yacht and Superyacht Show.

Style, design, technology and safety are the key elements of a sector characterized by the authentic expression of its public.

In the sailing world area, the protagonists are boats, accessories, components and technical clothing, in the name of the avant-garde and the future. Within the area, spaces dedicated to relaxation and entertainment are available for visitors, aimed at satisfying the demands of the public that combine efficiency of services and safety.

Living the sea
Living the sea sector offers the sea for everyone from every point of view. Living the sea, knowing it and respecting it: the Boat Show offers a large space available to the nautical tourism sector, where you can find all the services for pleasure craft and related activities. In this public area and sector operators meet with the Institutions, Associations and Federations of the Sea, with the opportunity to deepen the technical aspects of the sector and the related policies of support, development and environmental sustainability.

The Living the sea area hosts the activities dedicated to sea trials (sailing and water sports), the “Breitling Theater”, dedicated to meetings and awards with the presence of the protagonists from the world of boating and the sea, and Shopping District.

Conferences and Events
The traditional forum schedule of institutional conferences is confirmed, in collaboration with Confindustria Nautica, with technical seminars and conferences on sector issues. First of all, on the opening day, Boating Economic Forecast, with the presentation of the new edition of Nautica in Cifre and a round table on the scenarios for the export of the yachting industry and for the incoming nautical tourism. Also this year focus on innovation and sustainability, with the organization of seminars on innovative technologies and a cycle of technical updating workshops.

The second edition of the “Design Innovation Award” is scheduled, the award established in 2020 by Confindustria Nautica and I Saloni Nautici, with the aim of supporting the excellence of boating and enhancing the innovation promoted by the exhibitors of the Genoa Boat Show through its products. The awarding of the winners of the 9 categories in competition, voted by an international jury made up of design experts, representatives of the academic and production world and specialized journalists of the sector, take place in the first days of the 61st Boat Show.

The Breitling Theater in the Sailing area host events, presentations and round tables with the presence of guests and sailing champions. The Italian athletes who have participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the Luna Rossa PRADA Pirelli team, winner of the Prada Cup presented by PRADA and finalist of the 36th edition of the America’s Cup held in Auckland, New Zealand, was particularly expected. Among the guests also Giancarlo Pedote, the Italian navigator who concluded the 2020 edition of the Vendee Globe, the world tour without assistance and without stop in eighth place, the best performance ever of an Italian competitor.

Also this year the Chamber of Commerce was the protagonist and partner of the Boat Show, not only with the hospitality project co-financed with Confindustria Nautica, but also with the “Aromi sul mare. Liguria told through the flavors and aromas of the aromatic herbs of its territory “, an event that in four days present four special cocktails designed and created for the occasion by the Bartender Genova Gourmet. Rosemary, peach, sage, chamomile and, of course, basil – combined with gin or vodka – was the flavors of the cocktails presented. The presentations take place at the stand dedicated to the goods Made in Italy and Italian boating – of the Chamber of Commerce and the Liguria Region.

“Visions and beauty on the transoceanic routes. The great Italian manufacturing in ocean liners” is instead the name of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti exhibition that the Chamber of Commerce host in the Sala delle Grida of the Palazzo della Borsa from 15 September to 1 October. Among the works of the exhibition, two large tapestries created for the turbo ships of the Italian fleet also be exhibited: one by Mario Sironi for the Conte Biancamano and the other by Giuseppe Capogrossi for the Michelangelo ship. Thirty-nine photos from the Leoni Archive tell the golden age of ocean liners.

RoundItaly, the longest non-stop offshore regatta in the Mediterranean, start on 16 September, the inaugural day of the 61st Boat Show: 1,130 miles to cover, which also define the Genoa-Trieste distance record, ideally combining the two city. The regatta is organized by the Italian Yacht Club, the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano, Barcolana, in partnership with Confindustria Nautica, the Boat Show and the Italian Sailing Federation. In 2020 the regatta was organized exclusively in virtual mode with great participation success.

Saturday 18 September was the day of the Millevele, the Genoa sailing trip organized by the Italian Yacht Club and which is increasingly successful in participation and which represents a fixed appointment among the events of the Boat Show.
