Integration Museum, Moscow, Russia

“Integration” (State Museum – Cultural Center “Integration” named after N. A. Ostrovsky) is a museum specializing in supporting people with disabilities, created on the basis of the Nikolai Ostrovsky museum-apartment in a historic building on Tverskaya Street (Building No. 14) in Moscow.

Since 1918, part of the premises on the upper floors of the Yeliseyevsky store, which occupied the entire house on Tverskaya before the revolution, was transferred to residential premises, in one of the apartments he spent the last year of his life (1935-1936) bedridden due to a serious illness Nikolai Ostrovsky. In 1940, a museum named after him was established in the apartment where the writer lived. In 1992, the building was rebuilt, at the same time the museum was renamed the “State Museum-Humanitarian Center” Overcoming “named after N. A. Ostrovsky, and the exposition was expanded with objects of creativity of people with disabilities.

In 2016, the collection of the museum-apartment of I. D. Sytin, located in a neighboring house (Tverskaya St., 12/2) was transferred to the museum’s collection.

In 2016, the museum was named “Integration” and was completely reoriented to the topic of integrating people with serious ailments into society.

State Museum – Cultural Center “Integration” named after N.A. Ostrovsky is a subordinate institution to the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow. The institution was created in 2017 by the merger of the State Museum – the Humanitarian Center

N.A. Ostrovsky and the Center for Socio-Cultural Programs “INTEGRATION”. The mission of the institution is the integration of people with disabilities into the cultural life of the city (Culture is accessible to everyone!). In addition to exposition and exhibition activities, the museum carries out scientific, educational, publishing, and scientific and stock activities. The unified institution, the Integration Center is a unique platform for innovative solutions and cultural experiments, including a unique project for adults and children on communication skills with people with disabilities. ‘ ‘People IN’ and the program for the development of emotional intelligence “Towards INclusion”, as well as the unique project “Dialogue in the Dark.” More than 30 integration studios and more than 200 integration events for everyone, including people with disabilities.
