Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair 2016-2018, China

The Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, are twin trade fair organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, usually held in mid-April at the downtown location of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is the largest fair of its kind in Asia, every year, there are more than 2,000 exhibitors fbe showcasing their latest products.

Review of Houseware, Textiles and Furnishings Fair in 2018
The 33rd Hong Kong Houseware Fair and the ninth Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, last from April 20~23at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The two four-day fairs bringing together more than 2,600 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions to showcase the latest housewares, home textiles and furnishing products. And welcomed a total of close to 49,000 buyers from 112 countries and regions. Attendance from mature markets such as Singapore, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as emerging markets including the Chinese mainland, Vietnam, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico saw satisfactory growth.

The fair’s main theme continues to be “L.I.F.E.” which stands for its four major themed zones: Lifestyle, Interior, Feast and Enrich. To highlight these themes, the HKTDC collaborates with NellyRodi, a well-known Paris-based trend-forecasting agency, to present four corresponding trend concept displays, namely “Colonial Chic”, “Vital Vibe”, “Magnetic Mix” and “Super Solarium.” The displays showcase a wide array of products of various colours, materials, shapes and moods handpicked from various exhibitors to bring inspiration to buyers.

Highlight zones of the Houseware Fair this year include the Hall of Elegance, World of Fine Dining and World of Fine Décor, which come under the “Lifestyle” theme. “Feast” features the Coffee Alley, while the Startup Zone and World of Building & Hardware are highlighted under the “Enrich” theme. The HKTDC has organised 129 buying missions comprising around 7,000 buyers to visit the two fairs, creating further opportunities for the industries.

Startup zone at Houseware FairThe HKTDC fully supports start-ups, providing a business platform for them to connect with global buyers and potential investors through trade fairs and business matching services. The Startup zone returns this year, featuring 24 start-ups from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, as well as a newcomer from Bangladesh.

Held concurrently with the Houseware Fair, the Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair has drawn more than 300 exhibitors from nine countries and regions, with new exhibitors from Pakistan. Nantong city of the mainland’s Jiangsu province, dubbed “the Hometown of Textiles”, as well as a number of Indian export associations returning with dedicated pavilions.

The Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair adopted the “Interior” theme and showcased a variety of home textiles, upholstery and furnishings products, providing a one-stop sourcing platform for buyers. The highlight zone, the Hall of Glamour, spotlighted quality brands and designer collections. India and the Chinese mainland set up a number of dedicated pavilions to showcase their products.

In line with the Houseware Fair, the Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair adopts the “Interior” theme and showcases a variety of home textiles, upholstery and furnishing products. Highlight zones include the Hall of Glamour spotlighting quality brands and designer collections, Baby & Bedroom Textiles, Bathroom & Kitchen Textiles, and Upholstery & Furnishing.

Zones under the “Lifestyle” theme include the Hall of Elegance, World of Fine Dining, World of Fine Décor, Creative Arts & Cultural Crafts and Green Living. The Hall of Elegance showcase, among others, renowned Japanese brand Kai with its “Q Sharpener”, a knife sharpener with suction cups at the bottom enabling users to sharpen a knife with just one hand. Despite its small size, it comes equipped with both fine- and coarse-grained slots.

“Interior” comprise the Interior Décor, Festive Décor and Best of ASEAN zones, as well as Group Pavilions, where exquisite decorations be found.

“Feast” feature a vast array of tasteful cooking and dining tools across six zones: Tableware, Wine Tools & Accessories, Kitchenware & Gadgets, Home Appliances, HORECA (hotel, restaurant, and cafe supplies) and Coffee Alley.

“Enrich” house such zones as Startup Zone, World of Pet Supplies, Homepedia, Baby Products, Bath, Beauty & Healthcare, Home Cleaning & Laundry, Storage Solutions, Outdoor & Gardening. Meanwhile, the World of Building & Hardware return this year to present an extensive range of kitchenware, bathroom wares, quality building materials, hardware and DIY tools from well-known brands including Bosch and Swiss Military.

Hong Kong has long been known for its concentration of creative talent as well as agencies that source innovative designs from around the world. Innovative exhibits from Hong Kong exhibitors include: Chopping Boarding Kitchen Scale: a chopping board with stainless steel kitchen scale, allowing users to measure volume of water or food portions (Booth: 3G-D08); Bowling Vacuum Wine Pump: a bowling pin-shaped wine pump equipped with a vacuum indicator (Booth: 1E-A17).

Interesting exhibits from international brands include: Carl Schmidt Sohn (Germany) ─ Aron cookware set: a winner of the Reddot, iF and Frankfurt Ambiente Solutions awards, the set comes with a lid that can hold utensil as well as flexi handles that secure the glass lid in place when straining (Booth: 1E-B17); Korean Electronic Bidet: various cleansing modes including auto cleansing, bidet cleansing and child cleansing, with stronger water pressure and comfortable bubble washing (Booth: 5E-D23); Honeycomb Rack (Taiwan): a patented product made with HIPS, a shock-absorbent material, and equipped with an iron wine rack (Booth: 3C-E34).

In the Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, Interesting products include the ALMAC 3D curtain featuring an unusual, origami-inspired 3D visual design from Hong Kong exhibitor Kangjia Group Co., Ltd (Booth: 3B-D07). Indian exhibitor Fibre World (Booth: 3B-D09) showcases a handmade Coco Rubber Mould Mat that uses coconut fibre, making the item highly durable with long-lasting colour.

Review of Houseware, Textiles and Furnishings Fair in 2017
The 32nd Hong Kong Houseware Fair and the eighth Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, last form April 20-23 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 2,500 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions to showcase the latest housewares, home textiles and furnishing products. The two fairs welcomed a total of more than 48,000 buyers from 111 countries and regions.

To create more opportunities for the industry, the HKTDC has organised 128 buying missions comprising more than 7,100 buyers to visit the fairs.

This year’s main theme is “L.I.F.E.”, which stands for four themed zones: Lifestyle, Interior, Feast and Enrich. To highlight these themes, the HKTDC is collaborating for the first time with A+A Design Studio, a well-known Italian trend forecasting agency, to set up four trend forecast displays under the themes “Count on Copper”, “Own Jungle”, “Visual Illusion” and “Bamboology”.

These 2018 Spring/Summer design trends are illustrated with a wide spectrum of houseware and interior design elements. New zones introduced at the Houseware Fair this year include Coffee Alley under Lifestyle, HORECA under Feast, as well as World of Building & Hardware under Enrich, which brings together 60 exhibitors to showcase quality building materials, hardware & DIY tools and sanitary ware.

Held concurrently with the Houseware Fair, the Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair. This year’s event features new exhibitors from Belgium and Vietnam. Nantong in the Chinese mainland province of Jiangsu, as well as a number of Indian textile associations have also returned to set up group pavilions to showcase their quality textiles.

“Start-ups need support and advice in a number of areas, such as the fine-tuning of product prototypes, brand promotion or positioning, and capital needs. Start-ups can use the opportunity to seek support and advice for their business at the fair. Start-ups can also present their business ideas at the “Startup. Smart Launch” session and explore more business opportunities.

The HKTDC is also staging a series of seminars and networking events to help industry players keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in the houseware and home textiles markets. Highlights include the seminar “WGSN Trendtalk: Houseware & Home Textiles 2018 Forecast” led by expert trend forecaster WGSN. Other topics covered in the seminars include pet supplies industry trends in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, houseware product testing, certification and inspection services as well as building inspection. To facilitate buyer viewing of exhibitors’ products, a number of Product Demo & Launch Pad sessions have been organised.

The year’s Hong Kong Houseware Fair adopts the “LIFE” themes which stand for “Lifestyle”, “Interior”, “Feast” and “Enrich”. Ichikura Limited brings along the Kakiemon, the renowned Japanese porcelain with more than 300 years of history. It is characterised by its unique milky white foundation “Nigoshide” which showcases sophisticated craftsmanship.

Another exhibitor, Life & Living International Limited presents its own brand JIA which explores and re-interpret Chinese traditional aesthetics and craftsmanship. Coffee Lovers should not miss the Purple Clay Coffee Set. Made out of YiXing Purple clay, also known as Zisha Clay, a material used for making teapots, it can absorb traces of the beverage and creates a more complex flavour with repeated use.

EASIA Design Ltd from Hong Kong showcases a collection of designer furniture under the HANC series. Inspired by the traditional oriental wooden structures, the local designer, who is also an architect, creates the Eaves – Spring, a small side table which borrows the roof curve of timber architecture and presents the conception of blossom in spring.

With the help of smart products, pursuing a healthy lifestyle becomes easier nowadays. Korean exhibitor BMSYS Co., Ltd will introduce the Feet Guilder, the smart insoles which can measure the number of footsteps, calories consume and distance walked. They can even measure user’s body balance through their walking pattern analysis. Its ranking competition system allows users to compare scores with friends and family to encourage more exercise.

Parlex Household Industrial Company Limited will display the Wireless Bluetooth Smart Ultrasonic Aroma Diffuser – iMist. Users can control its operation including aroma diffusion, LED lighting effect and music playing with an app, bringing the benefits of aroma-therapy, aqua-therapy, light-therapy and sound-therapy to busy citizens.

Makita Power Tools (HK) Ltd, the exhibitor from the debut World of Building and Hardware, will display a series of handy cordless tools at home. The removable external battery can be applied to over 20 types of them, for example, rotary hammer, multi-cutter, screwdriver and bluetooth speaker to achieve the green concept of “One Battery・Multi-functions”.

Turning wastes into resources is one of the ways to protect the environment. The pet sanitiser spray of Energy Plus Development Limited, the exhibitor from the World of Pet Supplies, serves as a good example. Using scallop shells, which are widely regarded as wastes in Japan, as the raw material, the 100% natural sanitiser can protect pets from virus and bacteria that cause skin irritations or unpleasant odour.

Review of Houseware, Textiles and Furnishings Fair in 2016
The 31st Hong Kong Houseware Fair and the 7th Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, last form April 20-23 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Welcomed a total of more than 47,000 buyers from 114 countries and regions. The concurrent events have attracted a total of more than 2,400 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions to showcase the latest houseware, and home textiles and furnishing products.

The fairs have provided an important platform for enterprises to seek new orders and source competitive products, provide a effective trading experience and create more business opportunities for the industry by organising buying missions and offering business matching services.

The Houseware Fair this year features 23 themed zones with clear product categorisation for convenient sourcing. Two new zones are launched this year, including the Interior Furnishing Materials zone that features home furnishing materials, hardware and DIY tools, and the Baby Products zone with a comprehensive offering of baby products. The World of Pet Supplies zone features a range of pet products, such as cages, a smart feeder with Internet of Things (IoT) applications, pet fitness equipment and grooming supplies, all of which serve the needs of pets and their owners.

Held concurrently with the Houseware Fair, the Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair gathers household and hotel textiles items such as furnishings, bedding products, curtains and carpets from around the world. The premium Hall of Glamour features a series of top-quality branded products. Renowned exhibitors include J-Tex with is bedding series of licensed brands from Disney and Hallmark, the top-quality bath towel brand Terry Palmer from Indonesia and The Home Fashion from Beijing.

The Chinese mainland and three Indian textile organisations have set up their own pavilions at the fair. New to the show this year, Portugal has set up a pavilion to present its high-quality textiles.

Highlights
New inspirations from top brands help to stimulate market demand. Buyers are also interested in unique and original designs, and branded products are also sought after., creative and distinctive designs are key to helping brands stand out. Local silicone kitchen gadgets manufacturer DAKA, an exhibitor in the Hall of Elegance where renowned houseware brand names converge, is known for its original designs.

To match the growing demand for branded houseware, the Hall of Elegance at the Houseware Fair features nearly 80 renowned local and international houseware brands. Local names include the fashionable ceramics brand Topchoice, the innovative kitchenware and tableware brand Kool, renowned silverware brand Regent as well as new fair participants such as Diamond, which specialises in high-tech household water filters, kitchenware brand Kinox and Jia, with its Chinese-style designs.

International brands are also captivating buyers with their eye-catching products, including, from Japan, Like-it with products that blend fun and practicality, and Interform, with its classic and subtle designs of wall clocks, indoor lighting, storage and bathroom items. The fair also welcomes renowned kitchenware brand Happycall from Korea, the French kitchenware brand Emile Henry with its red tagines, as well as the popular and vogue Italian kitchenware brands Pedrini and TVS.

Nowadays, dining at home is increasingly seen as an enjoyable and healthy lifestyle choice. As a result, the demand for top-quality kitchenware and tableware is growing. Consumers are willing to pay more for products that are easy to use and beautifully designed, seeing such purchases as an investment in their quality of life. At the World of Fine Dining zone, more than 300 exhibitors from all over the world have brought a wide range of cookware, kitchen and dining products, such as the famous glassware brand Glasslock, the local kitchenware design brand Konstar, and Wilmax with their quality ceramic whiteware, to fit the trend of fine dining at home.

Another exhibitor at the Hall of Elegance, Japanese brand Interform, which is known for its unique clocks, indoor lighting and bathroom products, had previously halted its export business due to unfavourable external economic conditions. This year the company attended the Houseware Fair as part of its strategy to restart its export activities.

Having enjoyed good results at last year’s Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair, PT Indah Jaya Textile Industry from Indonesia, returned this year to the Hall of Glamour to showcase a new collection of high-quality towels from its luxury brand Terry Palmer, targeting the hotel industry.
