Hong Kong Food Expo 2014, China

The 25th Hong Kong Food Expo, together with Hong Kong International Tea Fair and the International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM), open concurrently on 14 August 2014, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, the first edition of Home Delights Expo also launch, offering the latest electrical appliances and household products for sale to the public consumers.

With four distinctly different fairs taking place at the same time, there was abundant opportunities for crossover business activities among the various participants. As well as showcasing new products and services, leading experts and celebrities share their ideas at various cooking demonstrations, industry forums and seminars during the fairs.

The 25th edition of the Food Expo has attracted more than 1,180 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions. This year sees a total of 14 group pavilions, including new pavilions from the Australian state of New South Wales, the Chinese mainland province of Gansu and Thailand.

Food Expo is the annual signature event in Hong Kong, a feast for foodies, by featuring a wide range of international and local delicacies, providing an ideal trading platform for exhibitors to showcase their latest products to international buyers, as well as featuring a wide variety of products for public visitors to choose from.

Hong Kong is a convenient and ideal place to trade and do business while the expo is effective in drawing buyers every year. The Food Expo attracted a large number of visitors, including distributors, chefs and consumers all in one place to explore opportunities.

The annual Food Expo is a grand feast for food lovers, Food Expo is hugely popular with the general public and has proved highly rewarding for trade buyers.

The fair provide a platform for sourcing and networking, creating business opportunities among different sectors. In addition to bringing an international gourmet feast to visitors, to enhance the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and other regions as well.

Exhibitors received a lot of sincere inquiries, purchases and cooperation agency intentions. The Expo provides a good stage to showcase products and raise the profile of regional local flavours, fine food and snacks.

The four themes of this year’s Gourmet Zone are: Western Delicacy, Asian Cuisine, Chic & More, and Sweet Delight. The highly popular Night Bazaar open to public ticket-holders from 7pm to 10pm each evening from 14-17 August, featuring around 60 exhibitors. This year, the Night Bazaar also include exhibitors from the new HKTDC Home Delights Expo.

The Public Hall is the platform for exhibitors to collect public response and preferences as it opens to all visitors. In the Premium Food Zone, consumers can find an array of popular brands such as Chewy, Kee Wah Bakery, Lee Kum Kee, Maxim’s Caterers, Nissin, On Kee Dry Seafood, Tung Chun and Vita Green Health Products.

Innovative products range from Pesto Cheese to Alaska King Crab Ice-cream to Frozen Beer. Once again, Japan has a strong presence at the Food Expo with over 250 exhibitors taking part.

A series of special events was organised to present a fascinating food experience to visitors, which include sharing by renowned food reviewers, competitions, interactive games and seminars on food industry topics.

To mark the 25th staging of the Food Expo, celebrity chefs have prepared a selection of 25 dishes, while the Star Kitchen welcomes a variety of renowned chefs to demonstrate their cooking skills and pass on tips to audiences.

A daily Star Chef Cooking Demo spotlight accomplished chefs and give visitors the chance to watch the professionals in action and also pick up some useful cooking tips. Bargain hunters should also look out for the innovative Smart Bidding Game, adopting two main themes, namely, Smart & Healthy Living and Elegant Living, on August 16 and 17 respectively.

A variety of seminars and discussions shed light on the latest culinary trends under such key themes as healthy eating, food branding, testing and certification and new products.

Hong Kong Tea Fair 2014
The 6th edition of Hong Kong International Tea Fair take place from 14 to 16 August. Trade buyers and tea lovers can find a wide range of brands showcasing tea products at the fair, and was able to taste different tea types and source from reputable suppliers.

This annual premier tea trading event gather a wide spectrum of tea products coming from different regions, including some important tea production centres such as the Chinese mainland, Japan and Sri Lanka. Exhibitors take this chance to present their precious tea products and introduce their tea culture to visitors.

Major product categories include tea, tea packaging, tea processing equipment and testing service, tea ware, tea craft and tea technology. Visitors can also enjoy tea-food pairing experience at the Friends of Tea zone, where bakery products, sweets, snacks and biscuits was showcased.

The fair is renowned for its events and the International Tea Competition 2014 is one of the highlights. HKTDC invite exhibitors to participate in different categories to compete for awards, which include Black Tea, Pu’er Tea, Aged Tea, Green Tea, Oolong Tea and Others such as White Tea, Yellow Tea and Scented Tea, etc. (excluding Herbal Tea). A panel of judges, including internationally renowned tea experts, review the tea entries through blind-tasting.

Another event highlight is the International KamCha Competition (Hong Kong-Style Milk Tea) International Final, which has been creating huge buzz in the local community each year. It take place on 16 August for regional champions from different countries to battle for the winning title.

Other show highlights are the presentations of tea culture events in the International Tea Art Performances, Tea Tasting sessions and Tea Networking Reception. Industry experts also discuss tea-related topics and share their experience at a series of seminars and forum.

ICMCM 2014
Jointly organised by the HKTDC and the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association, the 13th edition of the ICMCM brings together over 130 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions including Australia, Canada, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Chinese Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore.

There are eight thematic categories this year: Beauty & Fitness; Chinese Medicine; Functional Food & Products; Health Supplement; Health Care & Therapy; Raw Materials, Equipment & Related Services; Research & Development; and, Trade Association. A variety of innovative products also on display including new health foods, supplements and creative solutions that promote the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Prominent speakers from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Japan, Singapore and Russia share their knowledge and ideas during the two-day ICMCM Conference on 14-15 August, which takes the theme of “Research and Development on Prevention and Treatment of Endocrine-metabolic Diseases in Chinese Medicine”. The Conference integrates with the 10th International Postgraduate Symposium on Chinese Medicine (15 August) which is coordinated by the Hong Kong Baptist University. The CEO Forum (14 August) focus on production management of Chinese medicine, with leading industry experts attending the event.

On 16 August, the final day of ICMCM 2014, the doors was open to public ticket-holders to attend the Chinese Medicine Health Public Forum which includes a day-long programme of events that give people a chance to learn more about various aspects of TCM as well as try the latest products on the market.
